To complete the process, you must turn in the "Locker Assignment card" to either registration or the Hawthorne Office counter.  During the school year, locker numbers will be checked, and any locker with a lock that is not registered will be clipped off.

SPIRIT PACK PICK-UP
If you ordered a Spirit Pack by the deadline (August 1st), it may be picked up in the Activities Office, P115, on Registration Day.  If you didn't order a Spirit Pack, but would like some Spirit Pack items like zoo shirts, zoo socks, zoo visors, class comp shirts, agenda books, dance tickets, and more, there is an order form in the registration packet.  All of these items may be purchased a la carte in the Activities Office on Registration Day.

DANCE TICKETS
The "Back to School" dance will be in the PVPHS Gym on Friday, September 8th from 7:30 until 10:30 pm.  This dance sells out EVERY YEAR, sometimes well-before the day of the dance.  If you're interested in attending, we definitely recommend purchasing your ticket at Registration (see page 54 of the online PVPHS Registration Packet).   Tickets are $15 on or before August 21st.

AGENDA BOOKS
The best way to stay organized this school year is with an Agenda Book!  We've added most of our school's events in to the Agenda Book, so it will be very easy for our students to write down all of their assignments while they keep track of late starts, special schedules, and more.  Agenda Books are $15, and order forms are in the Registration Packet (page 51).

NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION
Panther students and staff are excited to welcome all incoming students in grades 9-12 to attend our PVPHS New Student Orientation on Tuesday, August 22, from 8am until 12:30pm in the main gym!  We've worked hard to put together an incredible program that will help make the transition to Peninsula High a positive one.  Link Crew juniors and seniors have completed extensive training and will serve as mentors and leaders for freshmen and transfer students. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes because you will be ACTIVE.  Bring your class schedule, but leave all your other stuff at home....travel light!

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PTSA PRESIDENT, JILL SURACE
"Inspire Mindfulness!"
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! The PTSA is looking forward to another year of support and collaboration with the entire community of Palos Verdes Peninsula High School (PVPHS). This year's theme is simple - Inspire Mindfulness! The concept of Mindfulness is the awareness to be in the present, and not be overwhelmed by thoughts of the past and the future. It is a
n interesting awareness that, while not always possible, is a great stress reliever for all members of the family!

This year the PTSA is introducing a credit card payment option through the Memberplanet platform for purchasing memberships, student directories, and making donations. Use of the credit card option will be free of any processing fees! We are still accepting checks during Registration Day using the hardcopy form located in the packet, and is the same practice as prior years. In addition, we are offering a free student directory upon the purchase of four PTSA memberships! We encourage students to become members as some of our programs and scholarships require a membership to participate.

Finally, your annual donations are vital because every student at PVPHS benefits from having such a robust PTSA. Almost 100% of all donations and revenue from our fundraisers go directly back to PTSA programs or to Peninsula High!

We welcome all parents to attend the Association meetings held on the fourth Tuesday of each month (except December) at 9:00 am on the school campus. The meetings are always entertaining and informative. Come hear highlights of the month and get to know our new, amazing Principal Mr. Kuykendall!

We appreciate any and all your support!

PARTICIPATION DONATIONS SUSTAIN OUR SPORTS AND EXTRACURRICULAR PROGRAMS
The District provides $650,000 to cover coaching, extracurricular, and academic stipends for the 2017-2018 school year.  The total cost of our Athletic/Extracurricular programs is close to one million dollars.  Each year we turn to our families for suppo rt to cover the unfunded portion of these valuable programs.

The suggested participation donations for the  2017-2018 school year will, as always, be calculated based on the number of students participating in the activities, the events scheduled for the activities, and the cost of officiating, competition fees, and transportation. Each activity will have a different suggested amount based on these variables.  While the suggested participation donation is not mandatory, it is needed in order to keep all programs viable.
As always, the student 's involvement in any given activity will not be curtailed or increased based upon any donation.  The donation, whether made or not made, will be completely confidential, known only by the Student Store, and will never be shared with the coaching staff or activities advisors.  The coaches/advisors will only be made aware of the bottom line so that he/she can make prudent financial decisions regarding his/her program(s).

To go through Athletic or Activity Registration/Clearance, please go to the PVPHS Website's Athletic and Activity Clearance page.  Fill out the information and follow the instructions.  The 2017-18 amounts for each sport/activity are here If you have questions, please email Jeanne Shiosaki at [email protected]

PEN HIGH HAZING PLEDGE
Please note that all students and their parents are required to sign the Peninsula High Hazing Pledge (see athletic packet) before students can participate in sports or activities.  Please give the completed form to your coach or adviser.  PLEDGE

ABC (ATHLETIC BOOSTER CLUB) NEWS
The Athletic Booster
Club welcomes you to another exciting year of Panther sports! Peninsula is fortunate to have a vibrant, active, and engaged sports program with over 26 sports and 60 Panther teams!

With ongoing budget cuts at the state and local levels, we look to the support of our parents and friends of Peninsula Athletics to help with the necessary funding. Please visit pvphsabc.com to see the many ways that you can help. Become a member, purchase Panther Cards (discount cards to local restaurants and retailers) or donate to the annual fundraiser, A Black & Gold Affaire! These essential donations help to pay for team coaches, strength and conditioning, athletic trainers, field and court maintenance, improvements to our sporting venues, expanding training room, track repairs, pitching bull pens, batting cages, and tuff sheds.

We start the 2017-18 athletic season off with our annual ABC Kick-Off Party on Saturday, October 7, 5:00pm at the Easton's home, 2 Clear Vista, RHE. Please be our guest as we enjoy food, and festivities together with our coaches, friends, fellow parents and supporters of Peninsula athletics. We hope to see you there!

THANK YOU PENINSULA EDUCATION FOUNDATION
I encourage Peninsula High parents to continue to support the Peninsula Education Foundation. PEF will donate $3.5 million to PVPUSD again this year. This level of funding not only helps us achieve academic excellence in our entire district, but also affects our school significantly through a variety of programs and supports.

PEF will also award a $1500 scholarship to a graduating senior from Peninsula High School, plus they will continue administering the Jack Bagdasar scholarship of $250.

Please take a moment to donate to PEF. You can pledge now and pay later. Visit their website at www.pvpef.org, email [email protected] or call 310.378.2278.

Mark your calendars now, to join me on Sunday, October 29th for the Skechers Friendship Walk in Manhattan Beach. Proceeds benefit the local education foundations.
