The W House Hires Johnson as New Executive Director

The W House of Hagerstown Foundation, Inc. is thrilled to welcome a new Executive Director, Ms. Kylie Johnson, MS, SHRM-CP.
With 10+ years experience in management and employee development, Kylie brings expertise in both the profit and not-for-profit industries. She has extensive experience in the mental health industry working with both at-risk youth a
nd adults.
Kylie is SHRM-CP Certified (Society for Human Resource Management), has a Bachelors Degree in Social Work and a Masters Degree in Human Resource Management.
Active in her community, she has served on several non-profit board of directors including Volunteer Washington County, was a volleyball and basketball coach, and volunteers with the United Way of Washington County.

Middletown Valley Bank Credit Servicing Center Coming to Downtown Hagerstown Spring 2017
|
Middletown Valley Bank is announcing plans to open a Credit Servicing Center in downtown Hagerstown in March of 2017. The bank's lending division which includes Commercial Banking, Loan Operations and Credit Services will move from Middletown to occupy approximately 5,000 sq. feet on the first and second floors of the high rock building located at 10-11 Public Square.
Initially, Middletown Valley Bank will bring close to 20 jobs to downtown Hagerstown with plans to increase that number to 30 within the year.
"As the company continues to grow, we are investing in people, services and the communities we serve. This additional office space will allow for continued expansion of our Residential Mortgage, Deposit and other corporate services at our corporate headquarters and main office in Middletown. We are making a significant investment in downtown Hagerstown as we see a bright future for the downtown core over the next several years. We want to bring private sector jobs to support the efforts for a growing and thriving city center in Hagerstown. This will also allow us to continue the investment in new job creation and expansion within our Corporate Headquarters in Middletown. We are excited about this expansion and the opportunities it brings both in Hagerstown and the Middletown valley," says

SCORE Hagerstown Seeks to Put Local Small Businesses on the Map with SBA National Small Business Week Awards

SCORE Hagerstown is looking to help put Washington County on the map! In an effort to help promote the great things going on in our business community by showcasing the best of the best in small business, SCORE National is looking for the local chapters to help get the word out regarding the SBA National Small Business Week Awards!
Submissions need to be made by January 10, 2017. Now's the time to tell your story about why you're the next great small business!

WCPS Students Donate to Animals During Holidays
|
Fourteen Washington County Public Schools are participating in an annual program called "Home for the Holidays" to procure donations for the Humane Society of Washington County.
Students of all ages are collecting donations and bringing them into their schools in time for the December 22nd pick-up day. The amount that the students donate covers the bulk of the HSWC's needs for the first quarter of the New Year.
"Helping to make animals feel special and loved is why I wanted to donate to the Humane Society," said a 4th grade student at Cascade Elementary. "It makes me feel warm inside when I can help an animal."
Potomac Heights School Secretary Eloisa Banes stated why her school participates.
"Our Potomac Heights staff collects items each year to help make a difference in the lives of the animals. Paul McCartney stated it best when he said, 'You can judge a man's true character by the way he treats his fellow animals.'"
Participating schools include Barbara Ingram School for the Arts, Cascade Elementary, Center for Education Services, Claud Kitchens Outdoor School at Fairview, Eastern Elementary, Fountaindale Elementary, Lincolnshire Elementary, Marshall Street School, Maugansville Elementary, North Hagerstown High, Pleasant Valley Elementary, Potomac Heights Elementary, Smithsburg High, and Springfield Middle.

Steve Egan has been handing out "Zonies" (an appropriately-named ceremony complete with personalized awards) to his staff for the past five years with SkyZone - and here in Hagerstown is no exception! This past weekend, Egan treated his staff of over 70 to trophies including award titles like Court Monitor of the Year, Hostess of the Year, Cashier of the Year, along with tons of gag awards! No employee walked away empty handed.

Orrstown Financial Services, Inc. (NASDAQ: ORRF), the parent company of
Orrstown Bank, announced that it has completed the purchase of Wheatland Advisors, Inc. ("Wheatland"), a Registered Investment Advisor headquartered in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Thomas R. Quinn, Jr., President & CEO of Orrstown Bank, commented, "Throughout our nearly 100 year history we have sought to enhance our product and service offerings and welcome talented financial professionals to the organization. Opportunities like this partnership with Wheatland Advisors, Inc. are unique and we are excited that Richard Heilig has chosen to bring his expertise to the Company."
Richard Heilig, added, "The union with Orrstown and the addition of their trust expertise will enable us to better serve our current and prospective clients for many years to come and I am excited about this next step in Wheatland's evolution."

Wheatland Advisors, Inc. will become a subsidiary of Orrstown Financial Services, Inc. and retain its name and location at 144 East Chestnut Street in Lancaster. The former owner of Wheatland, Richard Heilig, will remain affiliated with the firm and play an active role in managing the clients he has serviced for nearly 30 years.
The acquisition of Wheatland Advisors, Inc. continues the Company's expansion into Lancaster County, joining the financial services office at 1800 Fruitville Pike and branch at 2098 Spring Valley Road. The Company also began construction last week on a new Manheim Pike branch at 566 Lausch Lane and will open another branch in New Holland in August of 2017.

Patriot Federal Credit Union, American Heart Association Donate Healthy Snacks

Students in grades K-2nd at Stevens Elementary in Chambersburg, PA received a much-appreciated healthy snack donation on October 14th, courtesy of
Patriot Federal Credit Union. Corporate Affairs Officer
John Kilduff, along with representatives of the
American Heart Association handed out apples, juice and veggie straws to the students, along with a little advice about eating healthy. The donation was made as part of the company's sponsorship of the American Heart Assocation's 2016 Mason Dixon Heart Walk held September 25th.
Today, less than one percent of children have ideal cardiovascular health. Studies show that health interventions at school positively influence healthy behavior in children. Through a variety of programs, including Hoops for Heart, Jump Rope for Heart and Teaching Gardens, the American Heart Association gives children the tools to build a foundation of healthy habits and empower their families to do the same.

HCC Recognized with Champion of Maryland Manufacturing Awards
|
Hagerstown Community College and members of HCC's Technical Innovation Center are recipients of the 2016 Champions of Maryland Manufacturing award, given by the Regional Manufacturing Institute of Maryland at a ceremony recently held in Baltimore.
HCC's Advanced Manufacturing Program received an award for attracting and engaging STEM students in manufacturing. Janice Riley, manager of HCC's Technical Innovation Center, was recognized for increasing growth through visionary leadership, and Mike Doub of Think Efficient Consulting, a Hub City Hive member in the TIC, was recognized for contributing to the community.
These awards recognize businesses and individuals from across the state for creating a positive image of manufacturing by achieving meaningful results in accelerating product or process innovation, increasing growth through visionary leadership, contributing to their communities, creating products that improve our lives, creating a positive culture of change management, attracting and engaging STEM students to manufacturing, and employing an inclusive workforce.
Founded in 1990, the Regional Manufacturing Institute, a non-profit association, was created for manufacturers in the Baltimore Metropolitan area. Today, RMI of Maryland represents the interests of manufacturers statewide - providing programs, service, and advocacy. |
Donors Step Up to Purchase Water Heaters for Reach of Washington County
|
The Community Foundation of Washington County MD recently facilitated a collaborative funding effort between donor-advised fund holders and the Pauline Anderson Foundation to raise $5,000 for the purchase of two new water heaters for Reach of Washington County.
Discovering no hot water only two days before opening its cold weather shelter, Reach learned they needed both water heaters replaced at a cost of $5,000. They contacted the Community Foundation for financial assistance after learning at a fall workshop the many ways the Foundation can help nonprofit organizations. As Reach staff worked tirelessly to fix the problem, they had no hot water for more than two weeks, which affected 61 clients with showers and laundry as well as volunteers who come in daily to prepare meals.
"The support provided to replace the hot water heaters was truly an answer to prayer and divine inspiration," said Jodie Ostoich, executive director of Reach. "After receiving the quote, I literally laid on my office floor and prayed that God would give me an idea about how to pay for this repair. God brought to my mind the presentation at the Community Foundation where Kristy (Smith) told us about the different types of funds and opportunities. I called Kristy right away and, though she promised nothing, I knew my prayers had been answered. I couldn't be more humbled or grateful."
Since donor-advised fund holders at the Community Foundation remain actively involved in recommending grants to meet their charitable goals, Foundation staff work with them on various giving opportunities, such as this one, to facilitate individual and collaborative efforts. Thus, Community Foundation donors and the Pauline Anderson Foundation could meet this need and fund the new water heaters.

Chili's Hiring for New Railway Lane Location
|
Chili's is coming to Hagerstown! While construction is underway at their 245 Railway Lane location, manager Marty Cohen and his team are interviewing candidates for server, host, bartender, line cook, prep cook and dishwasher positions!
According to Cohen, "you work your tail off. You do your job well. Guests aadore you. Other ChiliHeads want to be like you. You bring it - all day, every day. and what do you have to show for it? Quite a lot, actually!"

Beacon Grace, LLC is pleased to announce the award of a Department of Defense contract with U.S. Army Garrison Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia.
On August 24, 2016, Beacon Grace was awarded a contract to work with the United States of America Department of Defense at Fort A.P. Hill. The contract length is one year with the potential of an extension.

Consider your work place... how can your engaging interaction with children make a difference in their brain development? When you have a opportunity to interact with young people -
- Talk to them no matter what age
- Shake their hand and introduce yourself
- Ask them to tell you something they like about your work place
- Tell them what you do and then ask they why they are there at your business
- Compare two products for them; ask their opinion of what they like best
- If you have lots of workers in your business, ask the child to describe what one of them is wearing, as if they were a detective helping to find a lost person
- "What can I help you with" might be a good interaction starter!
- Compliment them in some honest way
- Ask them what they like to do
As businesses we can help the process of strong brain development in children~ have fun as you interact with children that may come into your place of business! Remember they will have your business one day!
