Ram's Horn                           December 16, 2016
Principal's Pen
As you already know, we are in the season of Advent meaning "coming" or "arrival" and how appropriate that is for us. We join Christians around the world hoping for Christ's second coming. This season is a joyous time full of family celebrations, work parties, carol singing, and best wishes to others as we shop and prepare to celebrate the season. No matter the season, I love watching our students when they come to school, play on the playground, or perform with songs and memorization of lines and scripture like at the program last night! One of my most favorite observations though is at chapel where I almost always have a take away. The students have such a deep, deep love when praising Jesus in song, or when discussing our walk with Him or sharing how we can help show others the love Jesus has for us. This season is wonderful, but the most wonderful thing ever is to see the love of Jesus in these students each and every day. I pray you too have the opportunity to witness this love during this time of celebration. Have a very Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year!

Santa's Holiday Shop
A Big Thank You and round of applause for all of the Elves who helped in our Holiday shop last week. We could not have done it without you! Ralph Krikke, Paul Rodeck, Michele Littell, Sharron Candon, Lauren Ryan, Jodie Hoehne, Erin May, Sharon Johnson, Nicole Cunningham, Tina Skirde, Samantha Bloch and Marci Voytko thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to help us out. I also want to give a shout out to all the students in 4th-8th grade who helped our little ones shop and pick out gifts for their family members. Thank you for using your stellar math skills to make sure each child stayed within their budget and got something for everyone on their list. It was pure joy watching the children shop and see how proud they were of their selections.  If, for some reason, something that your child purchased is broken or does not work Fun Services will provide a replacement. Please contact Adrienne Olsen for more information.

There is not a PTL meeting in December! Please consider joining us in the new year. We would love to have you and your ideas for our committee. We meet the fourth Monday of the month in the conference room in the office. Our next meeting will be  Monday, January 23, after school.

Blessings,
Adrienne Olsen

Cleaning Closets During Christmas Break?
Be Green and help our school earn some Green $$$ at the same time! Shepherd of the Hills PTL has partnered with Savers to do a donation drive during the month of January. This is taking the place of the Buck-A-Bag that we have previously done.
  • Savers will pay us $.20/lb for soft goods (clothing, bedding, shoes, towels, curtains, jewelry, etc...) and .5/lb for hard goods (books, CD, DVD's, toys (stuffed animals are considered hard goods), small appliances and other household goods).
  • We will be collecting gently used clothing and other household goods throughout the month of January.
  • Soft items need be placed in plastic trash bags-13gal kitchen bags work well.
  • Hard goods need to be brought in boxes.
  • Start collecting over Christmas Break!
You are welcome to drop items off at Shepherd of the Hills any time during the month of January or take it directly to Savers on January 28, between 2:00-4:00 pm. We will also be in need of volunteers on January 28 to help us load up bags and boxes to take over to Savers.  I will be sending home a bag with each student along with more information after Christmas Break.  Please be looking for this!  The students will be challenged to bring back at least one bag for the opportunity to earn some fun prizes. Proceeds from this fundraiser will help us offset the cost of the Teacher Appreciation Lunch that we do for teachers and staff later this spring. Please contact Adrienne Olsen if you have questions.

Jack's Corner
QUESTION:  My eight-year-old has been reluctant to say his prayers with me at night.  I could tell his heart wasn't really into it.  When I pressed him, he said that he didn't want to pray because God didn't answer his prayers.  We had been praying for his dog to get better, but we had to put it down last month.  Help!

ANSWER:  What a heartache!  Prepare for a long haul.  This will be a journey for both of you.  Telling him that "God answers all prayers...sometimes "yes", sometimes "no", and sometimes "wait", won't work very well at his age.   Although that answer is true...
