Southern Crescent Technical College has partnered with the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce and the Development Authority of Jasper County to host an Open House and Job Fair at the Jasper County Center in Monticello on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017 from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.

The community is invited to enjoy refreshments and learn more about the programs offered at the Southern Crescent Technical College Jasper location, 112 Industrial Park Dr. These programs include:

*Early Childhood Care & Education
*Management & Supervisory Specialist
*Phlebotomy Technician
*Welding

SCTC application fees will be waived during this event.

The Chamber of Commerce and Development Authority has partnered with local business and industry to be present to accept applications, provide job training information and conduct on-site interviews. Interested applicants should bring a valid driver's license and social security card. Companies participating in the Job Fair include: Associated Staffing Service,  Cal-Maine Foods, Dexter Axle, Express Employment Agency, Georgia Pacific, Jasper County Sheriff's Department, Jasper County HR Department, Jasper County Charter School System, Mary Kay, Norton Packaging, Sovereign Risk Solutions, TSM Contractors

LEADERSHIP JASPER STUDIES TOURISM

Leadership Jasper 2017 recently visited Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center's Visitors Center during their class on tourism.   They learned about the life, legacy, and conservation practices on wildlife used today at the Wildlife Resources Division from Amber Barrow, naturalist .  Charlie Elliott Visitors Center is located at 543 Elliott Trail, Mansfield (Jasper County).  The Visitors Center serves as the information "hub." for the 6,400 acre wildlife refuge. Outdoor interests include shooting sports, fishing, camping, hiking, biking, or even star-gazing, opportunities abound.
Explore Georgia has rolled out a new campaign for the Year of Film in the form of a "selfie spot" tour of Georgia featuring key film locations from Georgia productions.
While 2016 was the Year of Music, the booming film industry has made 2017 the Year of Film. Tax incentives have drawn in production companies by the hundreds and Georgia has risen to the top spot in Big Budget feature films, generating $2.7 billion dollars in direct spending on film productions last year. Governor Nathan Deal recently lauded the entertainment industry and the economic impact of the film industry which has become a major part of the Georgia economy.   Explore Georgia promotes tourism across the state and Jasper County has become a key spot on this year's tour.  Katie Cannon, Jasper County's Tourism Manager for the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce worked with Explore Georgia to ensure that the Sac-o-Suds is a "selfie spot" on the tour as a film location for feature film production of My Cousin Vinny.
 
You can stand in the footsteps of famous stars and snap pictures of familiar scenes from your favorite Georgia films.    In front of President Snow's mansion. At the bus stop with Forrest. Eating fried green tomatoes at the Whistle Stop. Walking with zombies in Senoia or stand in front of Sac o Suds where scenes from My Cousin Vinny was filmed.
