What's Happening in Boise School District
August 14:   Boise School Board meeting, 5:30 p.m. , Board Room, District Services Center, 8169 W. Victory Road, Boise. The Board will: receive monthly agenda items that they will review and vote on and receive the annual tax certification. Public is invited to attend. Complete agenda is posted on the Boise School District Board of Trustees Meeting Packet website.

August 19:  Families will enjoy a fun-filled evening of kids' activities and great films as part of Movies Under the Stars in Boise.

The fun begins at 7 p.m. with free games for kids provided by the Boise Parks and Recreation Mobile Recreation Van. Kids will get moving with capture the flag, dodgeball and other field games.

At dusk, family-friendly movies are shown on a huge 30' inflatable movie screen. The free family movies and fun are presented by Boise Parks and Recreation and the Boise Schools Education Foundation with support from Wesselman Solutions.

Remaining movies and locations include:

August 19: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Julia Davis Park, 700 S Capitol Blvd.
August 26: BFG - Molenaar Park, 2815 S Maple Grove Rd.

August  20 Online registration for Fall Community Education classes begins. Choose from hundreds of personal enrichment courses. August 21:   On August 21, 2017 a solar eclipse will be visible across the state of Idaho.  A total solar eclipse occurs when a new moon comes between the Sun and Earth and casts a shadow across the Earth. Although Boise is not in the path of totality, it's predicted that Boiseans will still be able to witness 99.48% obscuration for our area. The Idaho Office of Emergency Management has a created a comprehensive solar eclipse website with links to valuable information to help you prepare for safe viewing of this event, including information about solar eclipse eyewear to prevent any permanent eye injury.  

August 22:  First day of school for students in the Boise School District- Early release K-12

September 4:  Labor Day - No school K-12. 
Back to School:  Boise School District has created a  Back to School website with useful information to help you prepare for the first day of school.  Find school supply lists, school bus stop information, school meal menus,  addresses and phone numbers for schools, school year calendar information, and dates and times for important back to school nights - everything you need to start a great school year! 

District Accepting Public Comments Regarding Proposed Calendar Modification:   Boise School District is currently taking public comments regarding a proposed modification to the 2018-2019 school year calendar. 

A public comments website has been created to accept input from Boise School District parents/guardians, students, staff members and patrons.

With a focus on student achievement, the Boise School District's Board of Trustees in October of 2017 will consider modifying the 2018-19 school year calendar to end the First Semester prior to the Winter Holiday Break, which will result in ending the school year before Memorial Day weekend, the last week of May.

Currently, First Semester ends about two weeks after Winter Break and secondary students spend that 'break' studying and preparing for their final exams. The school year currently ends after Memorial Day in June. Learn more...
Breakfast, Lunch & Supper Served in Boise School District:  Boise School District participates in the USDA National School Breakfast, National School Lunch and Child and Adult Care Food Program's At Risk Supper Programs. Breakfast and lunch are served at all Boise schools. Suppers are provided at 7 schools with Boise Parks & Recreation after school programs including Garfield, Grace Jordan, Hawthorne, Jefferson, Morley Nelson, Whitney, and William Howard Taft. Free & reduced price meals are available to students who qualify and are free to students who attend a Community Eligibility Provision schools. Boise District Schools to Receive Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Grants:  A number of elementary schools in the Boise School District will receive Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  The elementary schools selected include Garfield, Grace Jordan, Hawthorne, Hillcrest, Horizon, Jefferson, Koelsch, Lowell, Morley Nelson, Mountain View, Owyhee, Valley View, Whitney, Whittier, and William Howard Taft. Students at these schools will recieve a variety of free, fresh fruits and vegetables during the school day.  Section 19 of the National School Lunch Act requires that schools with the highest free-and reduced-identified enrollment be given priority for participation in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. This selection criterion ensures that the program benefits children who generally have fewer opportunities to consume fresh fruit and vegetables on a regular basis.

Timberline High Students Recognized: For the fourth year in a row, students from the Accelerated English 10 classes at Timberline High School taught by Taryn Waddell and David Archibald-Seiffer have been named winners in the national "Anthem" essay competition sponsored by the Ayn Rand Institute. Awards carry cash prizes and certificate recognition.
