One of the books on my Summer reading list was The One Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan.  Keller is the Chairman and Co-Founder of Keller Williams Realty and Papasan is a VP there as well.  This book captured my attention because it challenges you to focus on one thing in order to achieve extraordinary results.  This is not always the way that my mind works.  I have always tried to multitask as much as possible in order to achieve results.  I think that is what the world has taught us, but my thinking has changed.

One of the illustrations used in the book is dominoes.  In 1983, a physicist published a finding that a single domino can topple another domino that is 50% larger.  In 2001, another physicist tested this theory by creating 8 dominoes out of plywood.  The first domino was only 2 inches tall.  The 8th domino was almost 3 feet tall.  What started with a gentle flick of a finger ended with a loud slam to the floor.

Big results are accomplished by creating a domino effect in your life.  Line up your priorities like dominoes and work on that first domino until it falls.  They key is finding which domino is the first one that will make the others fall.  Then the key the next day is finding that day's first domino that will make the others fall.  By knocking over the lead domino, we can exponentially create success in a sequential fashion.  One of my favorite quotes from the book is this:

"The key is over time.  Success is built sequentially.  It's one thing at a time."
