Join our Quilt Challenge to help us celebrate
Yikes  -- where did those 40 years go?
  
   We have been playing with fabric and creating  fun stuff for nearly 40 years.  Now we want to combine our talents with yours to make quilts available for the children in our community who are removed from an unfortunate home situation.  

  We are presenting our 40th Anniversary Quilt Challenge, "Stir what you got!".  It will be a fun way to showcase our customers' talents, give comfort to children in our community, and celebrate our 40th Anniversary with $1,400.00 Creations' gift certificates.  

  This is how works.  Come by the shop and purchase one of our $15.00 strip sets like those in the photo.  These contain 3 yards of fabric in various strip widths that are loosely coordinated.  Use it in combination with your own fabric to create a quilt. Completely finish it, turn it in to Creations by March 12th, 2018 and have a chance to win a one of our gift certificates.
    We will display all of the quilts at The Main House, our retreat center, March 15th - 17th in celebration of our 40th Anniversary.  Winners will be determined by viewer's choice.  There are no categories so any form of piecing, applique, embroidery will be appreciated.  The only requirement is that you use a recognizable portion of the strip roll you select, either on the front or back.  We encourage you to enter as many quilts as you would like as they will all go to the Rainbow Room in Kerrville. Each entry must be accompanied by the official entry form which is given with each bundle purchased.  All of the donated quilts will stay within our county.  
   Your quilts will go to children so we are suggesting that the size be no smaller than 30" wide and no longer than 70" tall.  These are just guidelines. All quilts will be loved.

   Prizes will be gift certificates to Creations.
First Place  --  $400.00
Second Place  --  $300.00
Third Place  --  $200.00
Fourth Place  --  $100.00 
Choices 5 - 10 will each receive a $40.00 gift certificate
  As a special thank you, the one who enters the most finished quilts will receive a $200.00 gift certificate to Creations. Every person who turns in a finished quilt will receive a coupon for 40% off the purchase of one packaged batting.  We will accept any quilts for the donation, but only those accompanied by our official entry form will be eligible for gift certificates.

   Although each person can win only one gift certificate, we hope you will enter often. (Remember, there is a special gift certificate for the one who enters the most finished quilts.) We have some great prizes, but the best satisfaction is in sharing your talents to help the children in our community. We all recognize the comfort a quilt can give.

   The Rainbow Room is a "store" that CPS case workers can go to and select new items that have been donated or purchased through donations.  These include mostly the essentials, but what a wonderful opportunity to have quilts available for selection as well.  The Rainbow Room is funded totally by donations.

    Winter Twist is brought to us by In the Beginning Fabrics.  If you were a quilter from 20 years ago, you will remember how popular the Garden Twist quilts were.  
   They have brought back the pattern and updated it with a wonderful collection of traditional Christmas florals.  
    This quilt measures 64" x 75" so it's just the right size to throw over your couch during the holiday season.

          Cork -- fun "fabric" to sew

   
    We love to try different "fabrics" for stitching.  This one is definitely different - it's cork. It is actually the bark peeled off the cork trees found in Portugal.  The bark is stripped off the tree and cut nearly paper thin and applied to a backing.
   Cork is stain resistant, and water repellent.  It can be cleaned with a damp cloth.  There is no raveling with the fabric.
  Cork can be used in your embroidery machine as shown with these luggage tags. It is a bit "pricey" so why not try a small amount of it to use as the accent on a bag, or one of the luggage tags shown. The 9" x 12" size is plenty to make several luggage tags and fast fobs for your scissors.  You can see these patterns along with the colors we have at  Cork  .
 

   Cork makes the best accent when used as a pocket or trim with one of your favorite bag patterns.  We used the natural cork in combination with Japanese homespun fabrics and Moda Grunge to create our version of the Busy Body Bag.  

  We are always getting new hardware for our bags that make them look more professional.  This bag features the turn lock opening hardware.  Check out this pattern, it's special hardware, and other patterns shown along with our cork colors.  You can see it all at  Cork .

   If you are thinking of getting a group together for a 3 day retreat, better make your move.  Most retreat centers fill up quickly and we wanted to let you know the spots available at The Main House for 2018.  (We are totally full for 2017, except for December.)
   We have a minimum of 12 to rent The Main House with a minimum night stay of 3.  Check your calendar for these dates:
May 24th - 27th, 2018
May 31st - June 3rd, 2018
June 7th - 10th, 2018
July 5th - 8th, 2018
July 26th - 29th, 2018
September 27th - 30th, 2018
October 25th - 28th, 2018
There are spots in December but who has time. It might actually be the best month to retreat!
