Of course we would love some assurance that any action we take will have a desirable outcome! Or at least that somebody will notice! Will pause when they meet our offering and say, "Well, that is exactly right. I have been waiting for just this."
 
Sometimes we get just the opposite: rejection, misunderstanding, apathy.
 
Nevertheless, it's vital that we do what we must do in the moment simply because it needs doing. Because creating meaning and beauty in the moment may not save the world or the place... but it will save us.
 
This is the principal behind RadJoy's mission of finding and making beauty in damaged places. We do it whether anyone's watching us create an altar out of a tree stump or reshape trash in a vacant lot to make a bird. We do it knowing that the winds and animals and traffic may sweep in and change our work. We do it because we love a hurt place as we love a dear friend who is ill--knowing that, even though we may be powerless to change the course of things, we can act right here, right now to bring beauty, friendship, attention, and even joy to the moment. Even the saddest of moments.
 
So make beauty for wounded places! Doing so, you open yourself up to the sorrow and the beauty of world around you and your own capacity to hold it all, live it all, love it all.
