This Week: Santa's Sleigh Visits Folsom Neighborhoods
Santa and Mrs. Claus are teaming up with the Folsom Fire and Police Departments to visit neighborhoods through December 15. Santa's elves will be collecting non-perishable canned goods to help stock the Twin Lakes Food Bank for the holidays. Get route information and updates each night on Santa's location at facebook.com/FolsomPOA.

Keep Pipes Free of Fats, Oils and Grease this Holiday Season
The holidays are a time for families and friends to share a hearty home-cooked meal together, and the City of Folsom's Environmental and Water Resources Department wants to remind residents to dispose of food properly. Fats, oils and grease- also known as FOG- can clog sewer pipes and cause overflows. Food items such as butter, gravy, meat fats, sour cream, ice cream and salad dressings are considered FOG. Properly disposing of FOG will help avoid expensive plumber visits, prevent blockages in the City's sewer system and protect our waterways. Always place grease into trash bins or covered collection containers. Use a strainer in the sink to collect excess food particles and scrape food scraps from dishes into trash bins.Deep frying a turkey? Used cooking oil can be placed in a sealed container and picked up free-of-charge by Folsom's door-to-door Household Hazardous Waste program crews. To schedule a pickup, call 916-355-8350 or visit the website.  For more information, call 916-355-8365 or visit www.folsom.ca.us/FOG.

Help Keep Leaves out of Storm Drains
Keep storm drains clear and prevent localized flooding by managing the leaves on your property. Rake the leaves in your yard, gutters and sidewalks and place the leaves in your green waste container. Piled leaves on the street can make street sweeping difficult, and can clog street sweeping trucks. Remember that residential households can have up to two green waste (and two recycle) carts with basic trash service. You can also include yard waste in your next bulky waste cleanup collection. Leaves and other smaller items should be bagged. To schedule a bulky waste cleanup or to order a second green waste cart, call 916-355-8367 or visit the City's website.

Holiday Party for Seniors Friday
All seniors age 55+ are invited to celebrate the season at the Folsom Senior Center Holiday Party starting at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 16. Party guests are encouraged to wear their most festive holiday sweater; prizes will be awarded for the crowd favorites. The fun, free event also includes live entertainment by the "Off-Key Singers," light refreshments, and a lively raffle. Party-goers may bring their own brown-bag lunch. The Folsom Senior Center is located at 48 Natoma Street, between Folsom City Hall and the Folsom Police Department. Call 916-355-3510 for more information.

Shop Local this Holiday Season
From national brands to one-of-a-kind boutiques, Folsom offers a wide variety of holiday shopping options. Shopping locally supports Folsom family-run businesses, keeps dollars in the local economy and community, and supports quality services, such as police, fire, libraries and parks.

Holiday Break Camps for Kids and Teens
Folsom Parks & Recreation holiday camps keep kids active and engaged while they're on school break. Camp selections include a variety of sports, science, and even a junior zookeeper camp. Find camp details and register online at http://webtrac.folsom.ca.us or call 916-355-7285 for more information.

Wild Nights and Holiday Lights
The Folsom Zoo Sanctuary hosts its seventh annual family holiday event from 5 to 8 p.m. on December 9, 10 and 16 through 23. The Zoo Sanctuary is transformed into a winter wonderland featuring thousands of colorful lights, decorated and themed trees and festive scenery. Santa will be in attendance each night to listen to holiday wishes and pose for photos. Carolers and musicians add to the merry atmosphere, and the miniature-scale live steam Starlight Express train will operate for special nighttime rides ($4 per person). Zookeepers provide special treats and enrichment toys for some of the animals during the event, and volunteer docents will be on hand to share fun animals stories and answer questions. Tickets are $5 per person (ages under 2 years are free); purchase tickets in advance and enjoy early admission at 4:45 p.m.
