LED Street Lighting

As communities continue to look towards more sustainable infrastructure options, updating lighting systems can often be a great place to start. Though we often think of the lights in our buildings, street lighting systems are great candidates for new and improved lighting. Implementing an updated lighting system can mean not only a lower utility bill, but also a lower impact on the environment for your community.

Ruekert & Mielke, Inc. (R/M) has on-staff experts who know the inner workings of implementing a new street light system. With their help, your community can enjoy many benefits of installing, or upgrading to, LED street lights:
  • Reduced energy consumption of the LED fixtures results in lower utility bills.
  • The service life of the LED fixtures is substantially longer than the older technology HPS or MH fixtures, thus reducing ongoing maintenance costs.
  • The color stability of LED's provides for a more consistent light output performance over their lifespan.
  • Due to concerns of LED's producing "too white" of a light, manufacturers are now offering "warmer" light output options.
If you have an existing system you would like evaluated for an upgrade to LED's or have an area you would like to add street lighting to, R/M has the electrical engineering experience needed to produce a successful project.

Energy-Efficient Holiday Lights
Whether your home is covered with thousands of string lights, or you use a single strand for your small Christmas tree, this article is for you! Municipalities, businesses, and homeowners across the country have begun to save on their energy bills by switching to LED holiday lights. A regular holiday light requires 7 watts of power while LED holiday lights are far more energy-efficient and require only 0.04 watts. Per the U.S. government's ENERGY STAR program, "If all the holiday bulbs sold this year were energy efficient, it would save 700 million kilowatt hours and the equivalent of greenhouse gas emissions from 100,000 cars."

Due to this massive difference in energy usage, some of the largest holiday displays around the country have switched to LED lighting. The most impressive example might be the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree in New York City which has decreased its energy consumption from 3,510 kWh per day to only 1,297 kWh per day by switching to LED for all 30,000 lights covering the tree. Comparing one tree to the number of lights used throughout a typical municipality, it's easy to see how LED lights could save a great deal of money throughout the holiday season. In addition to being energy-efficient, LED holiday lights have proven to be safer, sturdier, and longer lasting than their regular counterparts. Save on time and money this holiday season by switching to LED lights!
