Notes

Deacons' Mercy Offering
This month's special offering (which will be collected this Sunday, August 6) is for the Metanoia Prison Ministry. Metanoia offers churches the opportunity to develop a discipleship and outreach ministry to prisoners through correspondence courses using curriculum that Metanoia provides. Please give as the Lord leads you.

Wear Your Nametag!
To help Pastor DeYoung and his family learn the names of members, and to help us recognize visitors (and visitors recognize members), it would be helpful if you wore your nametag to church on Sundays. If you don't have one or lost yours, please request one at the Information Desk or email Mary Jo Culver at [email protected].

Missionary Informational Luncheon:
Stephen Chambers
Sunday, August 13 | 12 PM
Stephen Chambers, a part of our Christ Covenant family, accepted God's call to a career in missions. Stephen's first assignment as a full time international worker was in a restricted area of Southeast Asia where he taught English at a university. You are invited to join Stephen for a light lunch in the Community Life Center, rooms 5/6 to hear about God's work in parts of the world we call "restricted" and Stephen's experience over the last four years. Learn about the role he will take on now with Elic, an innovative organization that connects students and teachers throughout Asia and the Middle East.

Set Free Discussion Series:
Breaking the Silence

Wednesday, August 16 | 7 PM
At this next event in our series, the Set Free Ministry team will lead group discussion to help us, as a church, better understand same-sex attraction and learn to care for and support those in our midst who are struggling silently. This struggle does not affect only those outside of the church, but Christians, seeking to walk faithfully with the Lord, are battling doubt and despair on their own. Hear from two counselors and read stories of real people who have experienced Christ's redemption and are learning to walk in the light.

GET INVOLVED

Help Build a Habitat House!
Join us as we assist in building a Habitat House for the Kingombe family in the Crestdale community in Matthews! Christ Covenant Church will help build on Saturdays: August 5 (8 volunteers needed), September 16 (6 volunteers needed), and October 21 (3 volunteers needed). No construction background is necessary, but builders must be at least 17 years old (or 16, accompanied by a parent). On August 5 and October 21 we need to provide 25 bag lunches for the site volunteers. Children are welcome to help prepare these meals! See the insert in this Sunday's worship folder for more information.

If you are interested in serving or having your group serve on any of these dates, please contact Karen Chambers. We will be building an on-going relationship with the family and will have additional opportunities to serve them once they have moved in.
