NAR President Bill Brown Installs EBCBOR Past President Bob Oppenheimer as 2017 NJR Centennial President. 

Robert Oppenheimer, Broker/Owner of RE/Max Fortune Properties in Englewood Cliffs, was installed as the NJR 2017 Centennial President during the NJR Installation gala. Bob is a four term Past President of EBCBOR. Additionally, he has served in leadership positions on both the state and national levels.

Edgewater Wants More Affordable Housing at New Complex

The borough's obligation to provide its fair share of affordable housing is currently in flux as state courts review municipalities' development plans. Board members want AvalonBay to provide 30 affordable housing units in the 240-apartment building to adhere with borough regulations requiring new construction projects to set aside 12½ percent of their market-rate units for affordable housing.


Planner Recommends Belleville Turnpike be Declared Redevelopment Area
 
A borough-commissioned study has recommended properties along the Belleville Turnpike and Schuyler Avenue should be declared an area in need of redevelopment. No properties will be seized through eminent domain. The examination sought to determine what type of development is suitable for the area and whether it fits the outlined criteria of an area in need of redevelopment under the state Local Housing and Redevelopment Law.

Suburbia Is Here to Stay, According to New Urban Land Institute Report
 
Great news for suburban real estate agents: Although America's urban landscapes continue to grow and millennials prefer walkable neighborhoods, suburbia is predicted to maintain its popularity. According to a new publication from the Urban Land Institute (ULI), suburban marketplaces are still expanding, and will continue to do so.


What will happen to mortgage rates in 2017?

Throughout 2015 and 2016, buyers enjoyed historically low mortgage rates for many months which finally began to increase in mid-November, despite predictions that they'd rise sooner. Rates are likely to hit 4.5 percent to 5 percent next year. This could put pressure on buyers to act; there are usually options open to buyers for working around higher rates, but buyers in high-priced markets will have more problems.

Trump's Pick Carson Accepts HUD Secretary Position

Former presidential candidate and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson accepted President-Elect Donald Trump's nomination to Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) secretary Monday-an appointment, which came despite Carson's initial reservations, that marks the first African-American selected to serve in a senior role in the new administration.

The U.S. EB-5 program, which rewards wealthy foreign investors with green cards, is up for renewal next week. Washington insiders are cautiously optimistic the program will continue and have a powerful ally in President-elect Donald Trump.
