Milt and Judi Stewart bequeath $7.7M to endow Center on the Global
Legal Profession
Milt, JD '71, and Judi Stewart announced in October their planned gift of $7.7 million that will endow the Law School's Center on the Global Legal Profession. The Stewarts' gift contains two components: endowment of the center itself and a professorship. The Stewarts' bequest will be used to support the center's activities, including global externships for law students, research and outreach activities, partnership programs with law schools around the world, and other student activities.

In recognition of their longstanding commitment to the law school, the center has been named the Milt and Judi Stewart Center on the Global Legal Profession. The Milt and Judi Stewart Professor of Law professorship will be held by the center's director once the proceeds from the estate gift have been distributed.

The Stewarts have generously supported the Center on the Global Legal Profession since its founding in 2009, including establishing the Stewart Fellows global externship program, which has funded more than 100 students' summer externships in eight countries since 2010.

Krishnan to present research at Dubai event
More than seven years have passed since the global financial crisis, which included the momentous news of Lehman Brothers filing for bankruptcy in the United States. Often overlooked, however, is a situation that developed shortly thereafter with the Dubai World Corporation, which was heavily affected by the timing of the global crisis. In a new report, Prof. Jayanth Krishnan and Harold Koster (Utrecht University; University of Dubai) analyze the circumstances surrounding Dubai World and the subsequent emergence of the Dubai World Tribunal. The report evaluates the Tribunal's work, including the manner in which it has addressed both insolvency and non-insolvency cases, along with serving as a forum for sophisticated global lawyering. The report will be presented on Dec. 13 in Dubai, but can also be read online here.

New podcast "reveals" life in law school
When she came to Indiana Law in the fall of 2015, Shea Smock was fascinated by what she was experiencing as a first-year law student. A new school, a new way of learning, new colleagues. Smock came to Bloomington as an unconventional 1L. She earned her PhD in mass communications from Florida State University in 2014, capping an academic career that included broadcast journalism and political science degrees from Butler University and a master's from FSU. The switch to law school inspired Smock to combine her passion for communications with her newfound love of law. So she grabbed her microphone and began doing what any seasoned broadcaster would do: talking to anyone and everyone she could. The result is "Law School Revealed," a podcast series that finds the now-2L talking with professors (Robert Downey, Aviva Orenstein, Ryan Scott), administrators (Dean Parrish and Admissions Dean Greg Canada), and others as she navigates life as a law student. The podcast can be downloaded on iTunes and can be streamed on SoundCloud.
