Why am I having such an issue with fungus this year?
Fungus thrives in wet conditions and the rain that we've received over the past few months has led to a boom in fungus population. While we're all thankful for the rain after last year's drought, yards that use to recover after one treatment are requiring two or even three treatments to get the fungus under control. So what can you do?
1) Pick up Fertilome F-Stop to stop fungus that you already have.
2) Make sure to mow frequently and at the correct height. Just like split ends, the more you cut your grass, the healthier the grass is overall and the damage can often be cut out. Make sure to regularly sharpen your mower blade.
3) Don't use any product with nitrogen in it if you have Centipede or St. Augustine sod. Stick with the Soil Activator until temperatures have cooled down in the fall.
4) Don't keep your yard wet! Water around the rain and be mindful when you have an automatic system that pools of water aren't collecting in your yard. Remember, fungus thrives in wet conditions and if your yard stays constantly wet getting rid of it will be almost impossible
