AgeOptions has received a report from a township in Cook County that someone or a group of people are trying to gain access to older adults by pretending to be township employees. Their motive is unclear, but we presume that they were likely trying to defraud these individuals in some way.

Local police received two separate reports. In one instance, the supposed scammer said the township sent them to do a blood pressure screening. In another incident, a woman came to a resident's house and said she was sent by the township to offer cleaning services. The two homeowners refused access and called the police. It is unclear if these individuals approached other older adults or what would happen if they were given access to their homes.

It is important to always question someone who comes to your house unannounced. Ask questions like:

• What is your name?
• Who do you work for?
• What is the name of the program that is paying for this service?
