Issue # 99 December 2016

I live in Sevierville, Tn., not far from the Smoky Mountain National Park. The
Dollywood-10 miles from my house
recent fires in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge filled the sky line around where I lived. Two fire trucks sat a block away from my house, ready to fight the fire when and if it came into our neighborhood. It was quite frightening and my husband prepared the car in case we needed to evacuate. Luckily, we didn't, but several of my friends did. Please keep our area in your good thoughts and prayers this month as rebuilding begins.

Loving Libraries -three writers remember their favorite library scenes.
Ann Patchett tells about her favorite bookstores, including the one she co-owns. If you're near Knoxville, TN. I hope you'll stop by the Barnes and Nobles this Sat., December 10th from 12:50-1:10. I'll be there!

A NEW MERMAID TALES BOOK IN JANUARY! Surprise your little reader with a  certificate saying that you've ordered the book and it will be theirs shortly after the new year begins. Click here to print out the certificate.
Pearl is like many girls. She dreams of being a flower girl, but how can she make it happen? When she finds out that Echo, Kiki, and Shelly are going to be flower girls in Mr. Fangtooth's wedding, Pearl feels left out. She comes up with a crazy plan that just might work (if it doesn't ruin the wedding first!)
My favorites from this month's social media:

HO! HO! HO! Books to get you through the Jingle Bells and Candy Canes!

Of course I enjoyed reading The Polar Express when I was a librarian, but I also loved a few lesser-known ones that you may like to check out this year (pictured above). And of course, I have some awesome chapter books that I highly recommend! And here's a free holiday short story for you: Zombies Don't Bake Christmas Cookies.
I celebrate Christmas and if you do, I wish you a Merry Christmas! If you celebrate in a different way this season, I wish you much happiness as well. It is only when we learn to love each other, for our differences and in spite of them, that we can all truly come together as a country, and as a world. Peace and many blessings from my home to yours, Debbie Dadey
