Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, President of the National Christian Leadership Conference,
Reacts to Newest Congressional Immigration Proposal

"While I have many disagreements with the current proposal, I am hopeful it will spur Congress to act with urgency to pass comprehensive immigration reform."
- Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, president NHCLC

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -In response to recent developments on Capitol Hill regarding new,  proposed immigration legislation, Rev. Samuel Rodriguez issues following statement:

" Wherever you stand on the issue of our nation's outdated and broken immigration policy, I regard the newest proposal presented to Congress as a positive development in that it highlights our desperate need for an immigration overhaul.

"While I have many disagreements with the current proposal, I am hopeful it will spur Congress to act with urgency to pass comprehensive immigration reform. As the NHCLC has long advocated, any legislation that has a realistic chance of garnering bipartisan support must not only address future legal immigrants and guest workers, but must also provide permanent legal protection for DREAMers and other hardworking, God fearing immigrant families whose lives are already inextricably linked to America - such as Pastor Noe Carias. Any proposal that does one without the other, falls well short of the goal.

The Fear Fix
by Susan Michael via IsraelAnswers.com
Ride around Israel with an Arab taxi driver, and he will readily tell you he prefers to live under an Israeli government. Various polls indicate that 60 to 78 percent of Arabs in East Jerusalem share the same opinion. How can it be that most Arab residents of Jerusalem would choose to live under Israeli governance rather than Palestinian?

West Bank Under Israeli Rule

A few facts will supply insights. At the time of the 1967 Six-Day War waged by five Arab nations against Israel, Arab residents of the West Bank-biblical Judea and Samaria-lived a third-world life. Although Jordan had occupied the area for 20 years, low life expectancy, malnutrition, poor education, infectious diseases, and child mortality were widespread. Fewer than 60 percent of all male adults were employed.
During the 1970s, under Israeli administration, the West Bank and Gaza then grew into the fourth fastest-growing economy in the world. By 1986, 92.8 percent of the population had electricity around the clock compared to 20.5 percent in 1967; 85 percent had running water compared to 16 percent in 1967. Not one university had existed in the territories, but by the early 1990s, seven such institutions were in operation boasting 16,500 students.

CHOOSE GREATNESS

The Power of a Great Family

via choosegreatness.com

When I was a child I was afraid of snakes, zombies and arithmetic classes.

As I got older I overcame my fear of snakes by forcing myself to handle small, harmless types. I lost my fear of zombies when I realized they weren't real and I managed to get through school math classes and picked a major in college that did not have a math requirement.

Fear is a mighty obstacle that prevents many people from fulfilling their God-given potential. Fear steals energy, creates doubt, destroys confidence, stops relationships and interferes with finding and doing God's purpose for your life.

Fear is a cloud in your mind and a shadow on your heart. Fear causes your imagination to invent the worst possibilities.

Fear has been defined as FALSE EXPECTATIONS APPEARING REAL.

I recently received a message from a city official where I live. The message was urgent. I immediately felt a stab of fear. Was I in trouble? Was there a financial challenge? My mind started to run on a track of fear until I reminded myself that God had promised to take care of me. I called the official who informed me that a small water leak had been detected at my home. It was minor, easy to fix and would cost me nothing. It was an example of FALSE EXPECTATIONS APPEARING REAL.

WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL

One More Prayer
by the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews

"
At that time I pleaded
  with the   LORD . . . "-Deuteronomy 3:23
The Torah portion for this week is Va'etchanan, from Deuteronomy 3:23-7:11, and the Haftorah from Isaiah 40:1-26.

Just how powerful is prayer?
Most of us have already figured out that the answer to that question is very. Prayer has the power to save lives, reverse fortunes, and achieve forgiveness. But just how powerful is one prayer? Two prayers? One hundred prayers? How about just one more prayer than we have already said? For that answer, we will turn to this week's Torah reading, Va'etchanan, meaning, "I pleaded."
This week's portion opens with Moses in prayer. He pleaded with God to let him enter into Israel. (Remember? In Numbers 20:1-13, Moses had disobeyed God's command and was told he would not be the one to lead the people into the Promised Land.) Moses begged God over and over. In fact, the Sages teach that the numerical value of the word 'va'etchanan' is 515. They explain that Moses prayed the same prayer 515 times!
Why did he stop there?
