ACTION REQUIRED! Attn: Parents of Current 6th Graders - Whooping Cough (Pertussis) Tdap Vaccination
All incoming 7th graders in the 2017-18 school year are required by law to provide proof of a whooping cough booster, or Tdap shot (Td does not meet the requirement). Students will not be admitted to school if proof is not received before the first day of school.

To avoid exclusion on the first day of school, bring an updated copy of your child's immunization record showing proof of Tdap to the school office now. Do not mark or highlight this record. If there is a verified medical condition against vaccination, you are required to provide the school with a doctor's written statement. The information required in this statement may be found in the FAQ section on the Shots for School web site (see link below).

Acceptable proof of immunization includes:
  • Print-out or copy of immunization record from your child's clinic or physician's office;
  • A copy of the yellow immunization record;
  • A certification of Tdap booster notice from your child's clinic, physician's office or pharmacy.
All these documents must have your child's name, date of birth, date Tdap was administered, and a stamp or physician's signature from the clinic.

For more information about the law and whooping cough, visit  shotsforschool.org, or contact Nancy McMahon, Health Services Assistant at  [email protected] or  (650) 321-7140, x5912

After School On Campus
After school, we are still a school!  We have a number of classes so it needs to continue to be a school setting, and we are noticing students hanging out in the quad, under the lunch shelter, and on the field after our 15 minute bell. Students are not allowed to hang out on campus after school without being in an after school class, including Homework Center. Please make sure your student has a plan to leave campus and get home in a timely fashion.

December 21 Dismissal Time Correction
On   Wednesday December 21, school will be out at   2:30 p.m. as usual. While this will not be a block day, it still will be a   2:30 p.m. dismissal. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Family Life Education Notification
If you are the parent of a 7th or 8th grader, your student should have brought home to you notification of upcoming "family life" curriculum  in science classes. Click here to view the letter. While this letter asks parents to notify science teachers by December 9 if you wish your child to be opted out of these lessons, we are including this information in the newsletter in case the letter was not delivered. Please contact your child's science teacher with any questions.

Lost and Found
That time of year again that our very full Lost and Found will be donated on  December 15 .  PLEASE come by and check out what has been lost so it can be found.  It is all being donated to a great organization, but wouldn't you rather have it back at home?

Looking for a place to donate your gently used items you no longer need? Here are 2 opportunities to help others while also clearing your closets and book shelves to make room for new things.

Used Book Drive  The 8th grade Spanish-for-Spanish speakers class is running a book drive for students at a local elementary school in need of books. The goal is 1,000 books by  December 16. If every Hillview student brings in two books, our goal would be exceeded. The books can be in Spanish or English for grades kindergarten through fifth grade. The books will be collected in the PAC before school and at brunch.
