In this season of Advent, preparing for Christmas can be stressful as many are planning for visits with family and friends, finding perfect gifts, and preparing for Jesus' birth. For your child, this is also a time to prepare for winter exams. While teachers have been working with your child in preparation, in the end, the responsibility to study and be ready for exams rests with your child. Below are some things that you can do to help your child prepare:
-
Review the exam schedule with your child to make sure your child knows when to be at school
-
Make sure your child has a quiet place without distractions to study and prepare for exams
-
Remind your child to bring home appropriate study materials
-
Have the necessary materials on hand that your child needs for study. Examples include:
-
index cards (for creating flashcards)
-
pens, pencils, and paper (for writing definitions and math problems out)
-
color pencils and markers
-
batteries for calculators
-
Be sure your child gets plenty of rest during exam time. Pulling all nighters is not the best way to learn the information, nor is it healthy
-
Be sure your child eats breakfast before coming to school
-
See if your child would like you to quiz him/her on the information or allow your child to tell you the information out loud. Some students remember things better when they say them out loud
-
Remind your child to take breaks from studying. Getting a snack, taking a short walk/jog, etc. can help him/her gain energy and refocus.
You can review the exam schedule and expectations for winter exams by going to the
CJ website

Volunteer Opportunity - PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Request for Those Traveling to Florida
I am recruiting one or more CJ families who will be traveling any time over Christmas break to Florida to help by delivering Toys For God's Kids small wooden toy cars to an Sisters of Notre Dame community there, the Hope CommUnity Center.
The Center is located 30 minutes from Orlando.
Families would be asked to pack several wooden cars in their suitcases and then deliver the cars to the Center. Families would then have the opportunity to visit the Center and see firsthand the services and programs they offer to help many people. Contact me if you are interested in volunteering.

Wright Scholar Research Assistant Program
Applications Due Before Monday, Jan. 9
Qualified juniors and seniors are strongly encouraged to apply for this competitive program. The number of CJ students accepted in recent years has grown. It is a tremendous paid summer internship program at WPAFB for juniors and seniors, right in our own backyard! It is a commitment, for an entire summer, but well worth it, to introduce students to many STEMM career fields.
Start early on your application, and request letters of recommendation before Christmas break! Learn more here.
