Liberty Athletic Club

Registration is now open
for REVUP 2017!

WHAT IS REV UP 2017?

Recovery-Exercise-Variety ~ Unlimited Possibilities  is an eight-week challenge for teams of two, designed for motivating and encouraging members to focus on the process of incorporating a complete health and fitness program into their lives.  By utilizing a team-based challenge and weekly, short-term goals,  REVUP  hopes to make incorporating a comprehensive wellness program easy and enjoyable.

Participants are given weekly health and fitness goals that are easier to achieve at the beginning of the Challenge and become progressively more challenging in future weeks as participants build on success achieved in prior weeks.  As participants accomplish the weekly goals they earn points towards raffle tickets that will be used in the grand prize drawing at the end of the challenge - $500 to the winning team, 2nd place $250 per team and 3rd place is $100 per team!

Our 13th Annual Pajama Drive for SafeHouse has started
and runs through December 21st.

We are collecting new, unwrapped pajamas, slippers, and teddy bears in all sizes - from infant to adult 4X - to be given to SafeHouse Center in time for their holiday party.  They are in particular need of pajamas for ages 11-14, adult sizes & slippers. These items may be dropped off at the Membership Sales Office.

Get a head start on New Year's Resolutions
from the desk of Susan Cutshaw, M.S.
It's that time again when many people think about transitioning into the New Year by setting health and wellness goals.  Realizing one's vision is not always easy so instead of waiting until January, take steps now to create a realistic plan.

Whether the goals are developing a better diet, weight loss, or increasing physical activity, it's about the journey. There are no quick fixes.  According to registered dietician Rebecca Turner, being consistent and patient is the way to cultivate that healthier lifestyle.

Hopefully some or all of these principles will be helpful when thinking about the coming year's resolutions.

Be specific with visions and goals - instead of making broad statements like wanting to be more fit or eating healthier; actually defining what that vision looks like may work better in the long run.

Create a reasonable time line and start date - set a date to start and then 8,10, or 12 week goals instead of looking too far into the future.  This can help avoid the feelings of mission impossible.

Make objectives measureable - set 2 to 3 weekly, achievable objectives which are in line with the intended overall goals and vision.

Borrow skills from past achievements - using techniques from past successes can be useful tools in overcoming roadblocks to victory.

Be mindful during meals - slowing down when eating may result in eating less and enjoying the food more.
Plan meals - this can help eliminate those urges in consuming the not-so-healthy treats.

Move - getting up and moving around every 30 minute increases metabolism and feels pretty good as well.

Sleep - there is so much out there about the benefits of getting enough sleep and another positive benefit; when we're sleeping we're not eating.
Be kind to yourself- keep in mind that transformations are difficult and life does happen so when there's a misstep in the well-oiled plans, let it go.  Tomorrow's a new day...
