Sheltering Animals of Abuse Victims Celebrates 15 Years of Service

Happy Holidays from SAAV!
|
|
From all of us at Sheltering Animals of Abuse Victims, we wish you a wonderful and peaceful holiday season! As the year closes, we'd like to thank you - our foster parents, volunteers, donors, supporters, and our community partners (Domestic Abuse Intervention Services and the Dane County Humane Society) for making it possible to serve our mission of helping victims of abuse by helping their animals.
Because of you, we’ve had some great accomplishments in 2016. In addition to providing safe refuge to 20 animals affected by domestic abuse in Dane County, we started a new “gift basket” initiative, and we further expanded our community outreach. Learn more about the highlights of 2016 and how you can continue to support SAAV below.

In January, we launched a “gift basket” initiative. Each participant in the SAAV Program now receives an animal wellness basket when they are reunited with their pet.
The baskets include six months of heartworm and flea/tick preventative for their pet, a bag of pet food (donated by Mounds), and a handmade card from SAAV. We also pay the cost of microchipping SAAV animals, if the client chooses. Clients have been tremendously grateful for our assistance in helping them care for their pet as they and their pet transition to safety.

In May, we launched an in-depth resource guide geared toward communities outside Dane County who wish to develop an “emergency shelter” program.
Our guide is an excellent first step in laying the groundwork of the many considerations in starting a program. It is free of charge on the
SAAV website.

In October, we launched an informational brochure for veterinarians about the link between domestic abuse and animal cruelty.
Veterinarians are often the first to recognize signs of abuse or neglect to an animal. This brochure provides critical information to help veterinarians stop the cycle of abuse. It is also available free of charge on the SAAV website.

As an all-volunteer nonprofit organization, we simply couldn’t do the work we do without the continued support of our foster families, the volunteers who help us with special events and projects, our donors, our community partners, and the local businesses who donate to SAAV.
Please visit our website to learn more about volunteering and donation opportunities.
