The United Methodist Church of Evergreen
Pastor Russell Fletcher

22nd Sunday after Pentecost
Sunday, November 5, 2017
Services at 8:30 and 10:30 am

Remember that this Sunday, November 5th,  daylight savings time ends. Be sure to set your clocks back.

Russell's Ritings....

The great writer John Steinbeck wrote, "...When a person comes to die, no matter their talents and influence and genius, if they die unloved their life must be a failure and their dying a cold horror.  We should try so to live that our death brings no pleasure to the world."

This next Sunday is All Saint's Sunday when we remember the saints who from their labors rest.  It certainly has brought us no pleasure to say goodbye this year to five of our beloved UMCE saints:  Aaron Ambrosier, Nicki Seavey, G.W. McMichael, Jim Gobel, and Bob Sturm.  All of these persons were honored and valuable members at UMCE.  This Sunday we will light candles remembering them and you will also be given an opportunity to remember those friends and family members who have gone from your life.

We are blessed at UMCE with two retired pastors, Meredith Rupe and Joyce Snapp.  Joyce will be preaching this Sunday.  I know you will give her your support and encouragement as we share worship together.

Then we move on in November to Commitment Sunday on the 12th (please get your cards in or plan to bring them on that day).  Then on the 19th we have as our guests the Queen City Jazz Band plus a victory dinner celebrating a successful stewardship campaign.

Wow what a schedule!  I'm excited - and thankful - to be your pastor.

Russell

STEWARDSHIP

WHAT THE CHURCH MEANS TO US

This is Glenn Stoll. I was a member of the same Disciples of Christ church in Iowa for the first 53 years of my life.  Pat also joined after we were married, and we remained active there until 2007 when we moved to Colorado.  My great-grandfather was one of the church founders, so our kids were the fifth generation of the Stoll family to be baptized there.  Needless to say, this small town congregation was a big part of our family life which made our move a little more difficult.
Evergreen UMC is our second church in Colorado after transferring from the United Church of Christ on the western slope.  Looking back on our three-church experience, we have been ministered by eight different pastors, all of whom had their own particular strengths and weaknesses (as do we all).  Of course pastors are important, but more important in our opinion is the friendship, love and support that we have always found in each of these church families.

Thanks in large part to Russell's leadership, Evergreen UMC is a vibrant and growing congregation.  Continued growth and a change in leadership will require us all to step up financially to make this a reality.  Based on our brief experience here, we have no doubt that this church family will make it happen.
~ Glenn & Pat Stoll

STEWARDSHIP CALENDAR

DONATE YOUR VEHICLE

Did you know that since the Fall of 2016 UMCE has received proceeds from four vehicle donations? Please consider donating your used car, truck, motorcycle or boat. UMCE works with Donate For Charity, a national vehicle donation program  that will pick up your vehicle or boat, sell it and provide 70-80% of the net proceeds (after towing and auction costs) to UMCE.   Please contact Bill Graf at phone 303-246-8330 if you have any questions.

ALTERNATIVE GIFT FAIR  VOLUNTEER SIGN-UP
The 2017 Alternative Gift Fair will be Saturday and Sunday, November 11 and 12.  We are again recruiting and coordinating volunteers from UMCE. Thank you VERY much for those of you who have worked at the AGF in the past! Once again this year, in order to avoid the difficulty of passing around multiple sign up sheets among the seven sponsoring congregations, we are providing a central sign up website using SignupGenius.  This way, you can see all the open volunteer opportunities and time slots, not just those assigned to UMCE.  As in the past, you may volunteer for Set-Up, Clean-Up, Cashier, Cashier Support, Volunteer Check-In, Van Driver, Parking Lot Attendant, Safety Assistant (medical person) and more! We need your help to make the Fair a success again this year!! THE SOONER YOU SIGN UP, THE MORE CHOICE IN JOBS YOU WILL HAVE!

Questions? Please call, email or visit Bill Graf at 303-246-8330 and [email protected]. Bill will be present on most Sundays at a table in the Fellowship Hall to help you sign up in person.  You may also sign up online yourself.

To sign up online:
  1. Go to the AGF website http://www.gifttwice.org/, then click on the "Want to Help?" link on that menu bar, which will take you to the SignupGenius site for the AGF.
  2. Review the volunteer jobs, the dates and time slots and then click the "Sign Up" button for job or jobs you select.  This will result in a check mark (√).  Repeat this for each job for which you wish to volunteer.
  3. When you have clicked all the jobs you want to volunteer for, please click the green "Submit and Sign Up" button at the bottom of the page.  You do not need to set up a SignupGenius account to volunteer at the AGF.
  4. You will be taken to a place to enter information about yourself.  Please:
    1. Enter your name, email, phone number and any other required information; and
    2. Click to show your affiliation with the United Methodist Church of Evergreen.
  5. Click "Sign Up Now!" to complete the sign up process.
  6. Click "Back to Sign Up" and  repeat the first two steps to be sure you are shown for the jobs you wanted.
  7. Close out SignUp Genius.
  8. You should receive an email confirming the jobs you are signed up for.
