With the help of
Pastor Glendon Jones of New Psalmist Nondenominational Church in
Westover, MD, and James' extended family,
we dedicated his new home. The new home in Delmar is the 114th SCHFH in the county.
James will live in his home with his two young sons.

was presented with a signed,
ceremonial golden key, a homeowner's
prayer, and a signed Bible. The group
participated in the laying of hands, a traditional Habitat way of blessing the
property, as Pastor Jones prayed over the new
home. We wish the best for James
and his family.

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT BLESSING
SCHFH Executive Director Kevin Gilmore welcomed a group at the site of the most recent project blessing. The blessing was held at the future home of
Evelyn and Steven in Delmar.
Pastor Sam Dennis led the group comprised of staff, volunteers, and AmeriCorps members in a prayer over the project.
This project blessing was a little different as the house was well underway. Evelyn and Steven could truly see the shape of their new home. Evelyn excitedly hugged and thanked everyone in attendance.

Just before the Thanksgiving holiday we welcomed another partner family into our mix.
Celia, an employee at Perdue, currently lives in Georgetown with her three children.
After the signing Celia said,
"It would change a lot because I would have a home for my children. We have always dreamed of having our own house. With this house my children will have their own rooms, a living room where they can play, where we are living now they cannot do that due to space within the home. " We are pleased to welcome Celia and her family into ours.

Charles (Ed) Gilpin
joined the Habitat family in November 2016 as a part-time
Site Supervisor.
Ed lives in Milton with his wife of 64 years, Lois. Prior to coming to SCHFH, Ed worked as the Assistant Building Official for the City of Lewes.
Ed was responsible for issuing permits and onsite inspections for renovations and new residential construction.
At the age of 17 Ed joined the U.S. Marines. After serving with the Marines for 5 years he received his education in Engineered Drafting and Design, thanks to the G.I. Bill.
Ed looks forward to helping progress the building process, and further Sussex County Habitat's mission, seeking to put God's love into action.

The Repair Report
AmeriCorps service members and volunteers are at in again! Recently, they worked together to complete a home repair in
Rehoboth
. Here they are pictured replacing siding on a manufactured home for a qualified homeowner.

ReStore to Open in Lewes, Delaware
On January 28, 2017, Sussex County Habitat for Humanity will open a second ReStore in Lewes, Delaware. The
new ReStore will occupy the 10,000 square foot building formerly hone to Practically Yours Antiques located in Lewes on Route 9,
three miles west of Route 1.
Work continues on the new ReStore. Recently the inside was painted, helping to lighten the space.

Below is the first in an occasional series of volunteer profiles. This article shines a light on Bob Kelly, one of Sussex Habitat's "Construction Regulars."

Bob Kelly has been volunteering with Sussex County Habitat for Humanity since 2007. His wife's friend first told him about Habitat for Humanity, and he couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"You mean to tell me I can come here and [volunteer] with a bunch of old men," Bob said, "and have fun?"
Bob has volunteered with other local volunteer organizations, and he continues to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity partly for one selfish reason.
Bob explained, "This is my fun. This is my mental wellness coming here and doing this."
Prior to 2007, Bob was a police officer, a paramedic, and a nurse.
"Every single day you come here, you learn something new," said Bob. "I'm not a carpenter. I'm a nurse. You learn something new every day."
Bob remembers the first day he volunteered to help with a Habitat for Humanity build. He met Bob Kellner and Bob Patterson at a build in Concord Village.
"I met them, and I was talking to them, and they were breaking my chops," Bob said. "They were just having fun."
Bob then said, with a smile on his face, "Every day is fun. Every day is memorable."

Women Build 2017 will kick off with a How-To Clinic and build day on Saturday, January 21, 2017. Be sure to save the date and don't miss this exciting activity.
Who: The clinic is designed for current Habitat homeowners, partner families, and construction volunteers with an emphasis on Women Build volunteers. Men and Women are welcome to attend this Women Empowering Event.
What: How-To Clinic followed by an afternoon build to apply the
learned
skills. Participants will learn installation of vinyl-plank flooring and how to install and repair outdoor siding.
