Wishes for a Joyous Christmas

As you prepare to celebrate Christmas this year, it is my hope that you are able to pause from all of your efforts, and just look around you. I remember as a child how special it was to go for a drive with my parents to go look at the lights. My fat her would have always scouted out some neighborhoods or particular homes with outstanding light displays. After dinner we'd climb into the car and make our way there, and then slowly drive by as we pressed our faces against the car windows. There were lots of oohs and aaahs as we passed while commenting on how beautiful they looked. I remember one display of a kneeling Santa beside a baby Jesus in a crèche.

I remember passing the multitude of Santa's manning the red kettles outside of the stores and the spirit of giving a
nd concern for those in need. There were always questions about how could there be so many Santa's and the explanation that they were just "helpers".

I also remember hanging our stockings on a door frame in the living room, as we did not have a fireplace, while wondering how Santa would get in to fill them. But the thing I remember most of all was setting up a well-worn nativity set beneath the Christmas tree each year, and carefully placing the baby Jesus in it as the final act of completing our tree trimming.

May you and your family have a joyous Christmas this year, and savor those memories which lift your spirits and touch upon the real joy of finding the Christ child born again in your life.

In God's Grace,

    Remembering Those in Need

As you go about your Christmas food shopping please remember our monthly collection of non-perishable food and groceries for the Ashland Food Pantry. Sunday, December 18 is "Brown Bag Sunday" this month when we collect and bless the donations placed in the bins in the narthex of the church and then bring them to the food pantry.

Pick up some extra food and bring it to the church either during the week or on Sunday. There are many, many families here in Ashland that are forced to rely upon the generosity of others to supplement their limited grocery budget.

Thank you for your generosity in the past!

A Generous
Church Spirit
Once again our church has "adopted" 10 children for Christmas from our community, whose families has come to the attention of the Youth and Family Services office of Ashland because of financial hardship.  We have been provided with a "wish" list for each child with toys, gifts and clothing items they need or are requesting.  Members and friends of our church and  have taken up the cause and are in the process of buying those items to help make this a truly Merry Christmas for these children. If you have "adopted' one of the children and their wish item/s, please remember to bring the item to the church by this Sunday and place them under the Christmas tree in the Sanctuary.  This Sunday is the deadline.
In addition we are also 'adopting' the residents in the Shadow's Women's shelter and are in need of 25-30  women's bathrooms, sizes:  M, L, and XL.  If you are able, consider buying a robe and bring it to the church by Sunday December 18th.  Last year we were able to bring 30 robes to the women, whose appreciation and gratitude was heartwarming!
Blessings upon all whose share from their abundance and upon all those who bless us with their joy!
