One concern is when an officials background checks expires.
A background check expires after 2 years and with the expiration date being in the Officials data base your official’s certification will expire two years after you last completed a background check. Therefore you must be sure to keep your background check current. To find out when your background check expires go to the USATF Coaches Registry:
When an official is interested in advancing from one level to a higher level.
If an official wants to move up to the National or Masters level the first step is to submit an updated Track and Field resume to the Officials Chair, Rod Larsen (
Larsenrod@aol.com
) letting him know you want to advance. The resume should list the date of the meet (month & year), the name of the meet, the city and state of the meet, the meet director or official’s coordinator, what event(s) the officials worked (knowing we all work more than one event during a meet), and if you were the lead official.
Our Officials Chair, Rod Larsen was named as one of four Officials Chair Zone Representatives (the Southeast Zone). He is assisting other Officials Chairs in our zone with certification problems and other Officials Chair questions.
At our 2017 Association annual meeting, Janice Thurston was elected to be the Official’s Representative to the Executive Committee, this is because the Chair is our Executive Vice President and therefore already has a vote on the Executive Committee.
The Outstanding Florida Officials who were recognized at the 2017 Florida Annual meeting are:
Female - Venetta Oglesby and Janice Thurston
Male - Gary Bestwick and Steve Thompson.
