ANNOUNCEMENTS
Luther College will celebrate Homecoming 2016 Friday through Sunday, September 30 -October 2, bringing more than 5,000 students, friends and alumni back to campus to partake in class reunions, sporting events, musical concerts and more.

This Thursday in the Regents Center will be the ShowDOWN of a lifetime! Luther students, faculty, and staff come together for a basketball game to celebrate Homecoming Week and to share good laughs and passionate plays on the court. The event begins at 8:00 p.m. in the Regents Center! See you there! Sail Norse! 

The BSU invites the community to Baker Commons on Thursday, September 29 (7-9 p.m.) for Fades and Shades, where members of the community can get an array of services including massages, haircuts and styling. Come de-stress, interact with students and support a good cause. A significant portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Decorah Flood Relief Fund to help aid victims of the flood.  

Saturday, October 1 head to the Book Shop to show your support for former alumni, faculty, and staff for a Homecoming Book Signing extravaganza in the Book Shop. The Book Signings will start at 10:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Go Norse!

The Visual and Performing Arts department presents Luther class of 1991 alumnus Patrick M. Strain's original play "stained glass" at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 1 in Storre Theatre. "stained glass" offers a view of America set squarely in the intersection of religion and sexuality. There is no charge for admission, but tickets are required. Tickets available at www.tickets.luther.edu.

Need some adventure in your life? Join the crew of a tall ship in the Caribbean this J-term. There are a few spaces left in Tales of the Sea, English 239. Information meeting this Thursday, September 29, at 9:40 a.m. in the Center for Global Learning.
 
Mindfulness Hike - Take a peaceful break during the hustle and bustle of Homecoming and join us in an opportunity to learn and actively practice mindfulness while exploring Decorah's beautiful trails. Appropriate for all levels of experience. Wear clothing and shoes appropriate for walking on the trails. Saturday, October 1st at 11:00 a.m., meet in front of the Union and look for the Outdoor Rec sign. Sponsored by Counseling Service & Recreational Services.
 
For the 2016-2017 Academic Calendar year, students are asked to purchase shuttle tickets days or weeks in advance. The ticket software shuts off 24-hours prior to the initial departure time. Any exceptions given will be charged an additional $30 fee on top of ticket prices.For more information about upcoming fall break shuttle please view luther.edu/shuttle.
 

RERUNS
Student Senate and Preus Library are bringing the New York Times online to campus. September 26-30 will be New York Times Week! Nicole Rome will be on campus talking about the new subscription coming to students. She will be in the Union Tuesday, September 27 from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., come get a SWAG BAG! She will also be in the Preus Library, Hovde Room from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. with snacks to answer any questions.

The Alumni Office is seeking students to work (paid position) for Homecoming Registration. Help is needed in two hour increments on Friday, September 30 from 11:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and on Saturday, October 1 from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Please stop over to Loyalty Hall for more information and to sign up.

  KWLC will be featuring Jones Distinguished Professor of English Nancy K. Barry in a new weekly radio show entitled The Naked Page: "Car Talk" for Writers.  Professor Barry welcomes calls from listeners as she discusses the art of writing with insight and panache.  Join her Sunday evenings from 7-8 p.m. on KWLC 1240 AM or streaming at kwlc.luther.edu.
 
Need some greenery to spruce up your room or office? The Luther College Grounds Crew and the Center for Sustainable Communities are excited to announce the annual Plant Giveaway Event on Tuesday, September 27. Students, faculty and staff who come to the Valders Greenhouse from 9:40 a.m.-10:50 a.m. will be able to pick up a free potted plant. All plants have been grown from clippings of plants already on campus.

Celebrate Kickoff to Homecoming with SAC Flamingo Ball! Come and enjoy music, food, and dancing in Marty's. This event is free with CAF and $5 without (event Attire is semi-formal). Saturday, September 24 in Marty's, 9:00-11:00 p.m.  
 
Come to Marty's and listen to fun Jazz music provided by Luther's very own Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Band! Friday, September 30 in Marty's, 8:30-10:00 p.m.

In September, Luther College's Board of Regents unanimously approved neuroscience as the newest major in the college's curriculum. Neuroscience, the interdisciplinary study of how the nervous system functions to control every aspect of humanness, covers everything from basic processes like regulating body temperature to more complex functions like movement, perception, behavior, emotion, desires and memory.
