Reminder on Leaf & Yard Clean-up
Please Do Not Pile Leaves in Street or in Gutters

Stormwater regulations do not permit leaves/branches/brush to be placed in the road or in storm drains. We must ensure the safety of motorists, cyclists and pedestrians who travel township roadways and sidewalks.

Montgomery residents are responsible for proper disposal of their leaves. Montgomery Township does not provide a leaf disposal program. Here are some guidelines:

* Use a mulching mower that recycles grass clippings & leaves into the lawn.

Montgomery Township encourages leaf and grass clipping composting. For guidance on how to compost yard waste on your property, please attend one of Somerset County's Composting Workshops (call County Office of Recycling at 908-231-7109) or read  Home Composting, a Rutgers Cooperative Research & Extension Worksheet

* Follow Montgomery's yard waste disposal rules for free tree branch & brush drop-off (we do not take leaves or grass clippings). Check the  Container Facility  and Bulletins pages of the twp. website at  www.montgomery.nj.us  or contact Public Works at 908-874-3144.

If you see a violation of State stormwater regulations such as materials being dumped into stormwater drains or waterways, call the Montgomery Township Stormwater Hotline at (908) 281-6525.  Much more information is available at

Somerset County Office of Volunteer Services offers leaf raking assistance to the elderly and disabled.  If you need help or can give help, call (908) 541-5715.

Thank you!
