A Message from our President
Our Chamber team is always working to bring our community new ideas and opportunities for connection and growth. We are excited to announce to our members a new initiative: a Chamber Travel Program that will kick off with a fabulous 9-Day Italy Getaway in October 2018. Chambers in Connecticut and nationally have travel programs because it is believed in the chamber industry that they build strong non-dues revenue streams, attract new members with the heightened visibility that travel can offer, increase community presence and create lasting relationships through shared experiences, as well as, strengthen business education and relationships globally.
We are looking forward to sharing in this new venture with our members as well as non-members who are interested in joining us on this trip and will host an Informational Wine and Cheese Reception on November 16th from 5:30-6:30. This is a limited opportunity with about 45 spots open to join in the trip, and if you're interested in learning more I encourage you to register for the session.
Over the next month we hope to see you at our upcoming Out for Business at Crystal Rock, or perhaps at one of our Business Matters Seminars. Don't forget to save the date of December 19th for our Holiday Gathering at the Country Club of Waterbury! Keep scrolling for all of our upcoming opportunities and don't forget that our door is always open to support you and your business.
Best Regards,

Hiring and Training Programs Available
|
|
Do you need help finding qualified workers for your business? Could you use some financial assistance to offset the cost of hiring and training new workers, or training your existing workforce? The Waterbury Regional Chamber is working with the Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board to help businesses in Greater Waterbury learn more about the available hiring and training programs and whether they qualify for them. This includes providing information on posting jobs on the state's CTHires.com website, as well as information about Manufacturing Innovation Fund Incumbent Worker Training, the Apprenticeship Program, Hiring Veterans, and On the Job Training programs. For information, contact Dave Krechevsky, the Chamber's director of public policy and economic development, at
[email protected] or 203-757-0701.

HR Corner: Five Generations in the Workplace
|
|
|
|
In the workforce today, we will find Five, Unique, Generations, all trying to work together to move the organization forward. Each of these generations: Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Generation Y (better known as Millennials), and now, Generation Z, believe they have the answer to business - but who is right? The quick answer is: All of them!
Each Generation has unique attributes (as a group) and each of those attributes can be both Good and Bad for an organization.
- Traditionalists tend to be the Respectful, Loyal, Patriotic group
- Baby Boomers tend to The Activists, be Optimistic, and are very Competitive
- Generation X are Skeptical, Entrepreneurial, and Resourceful
- Generation Y or Millennials tend to be Tech Savvy, Searching for Meaning and are Collaborative.
- Generation Z are pragmatic, self-reliant, and visual communicators.
As you can see they are all different (however they also have similar traits as well), but they all bring some great traits to the table to help the organization succeed. If we could tap into the greatest traits of each generation, and guide them through a successful method of working together, we will not be stopped from achieving success! If we could find the similarities and share those with everyone, we can actually help them all to see the value in each other.
If you would like to find out how to achieve this - please attend the Business Matters workshop at Naugatuck Valley Community College on November 15 (Details below)!
