RESULTS: 1st REGION VII CASE STUDY COMPETITION

The Region VII Teaching, Learning and Scholarship (TLS) Knowledge Community held its 1st Case Study Competition in Spartanburg, SC. 11 graduate students and new professionals in 4 teams worked together over 30+ hours to analyze student mobility based on a hypothetical campus profile. Participants gave 10 minute presentations to a panel of experienced professionals who judged the presentations.
 
The Winners Are:
Hayley Hardenbrook, International Advisor at North Carolina State University; and Kaycee Ingram, a graduate student at Eastern Carolina University.

They received plaques, induction into Phi Beta Delta Honor Society of International Scholars, along with complimentary 1-year dues, and a copy of  Intercultural Competence in Higher Education: International Approaches, Assessment and Application edited by Dr. Darla Deardorff and Lily Arasaratnam-Smith.

In a statement responding to the administration's decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, NAFSA Executive Director and CEO Esther D. Brimmer, DPhil, called the move "the antithesis of American values."
 
NAFSA has joined with other higher education organizations defending DACA and signed on to letters led by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and the American Council on Education (ACE).

Take action  to support Dreamers today by urging your members of Congress to pass the Dream Act.

When: March 19-20
At the NAFSA 2018 Advocacy Day, speak out for students, scholars and policies that matter to you! You will receive a day of training  with meals and snacks,  and  strategizing  session  before heading to Capitol Hill with  all  the tools needed ! There, you get to  educate  your specific  Congress  people  on how international education impacts your state and district and why we need a more globally engaged and welcoming United States.  Personal meetings will be scheduled for you with your elected officials and their staff in both the US Senate and House of Representatives.

  INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION
 
Applications are now being accepted for the 2018 Academy Class #15. AIE is a year-long training program designed for those who are new to the international education field, as well as those who've recently had international education added to their responsibilities. Guided by a seasoned international education coach and working with a cohort of peers in small groups, the program is designed to meet specific learning needs. Consider applying for Academy Class #15, or encourage any interested peers or new professionals to apply. Admission is competitive.
 
Deadline to Apply : December 1, 2017 (Training begins Spring 2018)
Cost:  $1999 (a value of more than $3,500).

NAFSA RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM
 
Registration is now open for the next NAFSA Research Symposium on Friday, November 17, 2017, which will be held at American University in Washington, DC.

The Research Symposium serves the research community in the field of international education and related disciplines by providing researchers and scholars the opportunity to share their work in an academic and professional environment and participate in a critical discussion of the theories, methodologies, and practices being used in their research. The Research Symposium is thereby considered relevant to international education researchers at every stage of their career - graduate students, post-docs, faculty members and practitioners. Space is limited for this event (and filling up fast).
Registration is $50 for nonmembers and $40 for NAFSA members.

International Perspectives on University Teaching and Learning Symposium -
Call for Proposals and Registration Open

Hosted by Auburn University, International Perspectives on University Teaching and Learning brings together a diverse community of teaching and learning professionals, international educators, policy makers, administrators and researchers dedicated to internationalizing teaching in higher education. The symposium is scheduled for May 30-June 1, 2018 at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in Orlando, Florida.  A wide range of relevant ideas will be addressed during the symposium.

Submit a proposal for pre-conference workshops, conference sessions or essays and register today.

Georgia 2018 International Leadership Conference

The Georgia International Leadership Conference (GILC) will be April 13-15, 2018.  This annual student leadership conference brings together 200 international and study abroad students from across the state. The intense weekend is full of leadership development and intercultural simulations and fun!

Registration open for the Student Global Leadership Conference
 
Registration is still open for the NCAIE  Student Global Leadership Conference This year's theme  is Global Leadership: Exploring Diverse Voices.  The conference will take place at Saint Augustine's University in Raleigh from November 10-11, 2017.


The NCAIE Student Global Leadership Conference brings together undergraduate and graduate students from colleges and universities across the state of North Carolina for a weekend of networking, team building, and informative sessions on a wide array of topics related to international initiatives, global education, cultural diversity, and student leadership.
