More than 100 Solano County students from 24 schools participated in the 3rd Annual Safe Routes to School Poster Contest. Students designed posters to encourage their classmates to safely walk, bike or ride a scooter to school. First, Second, and Third Place winners in TK-2nd, 3rd-5th, and 6th-8th grade categories received gift certificates from a local bike shop. Congratulations to the

Solano SR2S Program at the 9th Biennial Childhood Obesity Conference
|
Lloyd Nadal, Solano SR2S Program Administrator, presented at the Childhood Obesity Conference, May 30 - June 2, 2017 in San Diego. He spoke about how Safe Routes to School brings together parents, youth, educators, public health, transportation and environmental professionals to address barriers preventing students from walking or biking to school. National Bike to School Day

A record 39 elementary, middle and high schools and 2,000+ students across the county participated in Bike to School Day on Wednesday, May 10 - an increase from 26 schools in 2016!
A special THANKS to the cities, police departments, elected officials, parents, school staff and community members who joined in to help promote biking to school and regular physical activity. Several schools had an exceptional turnout of students who opted to ride their bikes and scooters that day. We hope everyone had fun riding and getting some exercise, and we applaud their efforts to help reduce traffic and improve air quality around the schools!

Dixon Cadets Assist at Bike Rodeos

As part of the SR2S Youth Engagement Pilot Program which launched this past spring, the Dixon Police Department Cadets assisted the SR2S team at Bike Rodeos held at Anderson Elementary and Neighborhood Christian School in Dixon. The cadets did an amazing job interacting with the students, while helping them learn basic bike riding and safety skills. We look forward to having the cadets helping us at future events!
