D.S. Brown Recognized in Award-Winning Projects at ASBI Convention

We are pleased to have been part of several bridge projects honored with a Bridge Award of Excellence at American Segmental Bridge Institute's (ASBI) Convention two weeks ago. The D.S. Brown Company provided bearings and modular expansion joints for the following award-winning bridges:
  • Honolulu Rapid Transit Viaduct, Phase 1 and 2: Mostly composed of a two-track aerial structure, this rail system consists of simple span precast concrete segmental bridges. The first ten miles will be completed in 2017, and the entire twenty-mile line is anticipated to be ready for service in 2019. (bearings only)
  • Oakley C. Collins Memorial Bridge: The new 2,616-foot-long bridge is comprised of a 900-foot cable-stayed main span and two 370-foot cable-stayed side spans, two 326-foot-tall towers, and two anchor piers on the river's edge. The 900-foot main span is the longest span the Ohio Department of Transportation has ever built.
  • Route 460 Connector Phase I - Grassy Creek Bridges: This high-profile project will feature the tallest bridges in Virginia reaching 250 feet over Grassy Creek through the Appalachian Mountains. The twin high-level Grassy Creek bridges will be 1,733 feet in length with a total of six spans each supported by five H-shaped concrete columns.
  • The New Dresbach Bridge: Over the main channel of the Mississippi River, the new 4-span bridge features twin, cast-in-place post tensioned segmental concrete structures with 508-foot main spans, built from above with form travelers in balanced cantilever.
  • The New Winona Bridge: A new 2,300-foot-long parallel bridge is being constructed with a 450-foot concrete segmental main span that will eventually carry two southbound lanes, shoulders and a pedestrian path. After rehabilitation, the existing bridge will carry two northbound lanes.
  • Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge: The new Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge carries Interstate 95 across the Quinnipiac River at New Haven, Connecticut. The signature span in this project is a unique extradosed structure found nowhere else in the United States.
