Dear Friends,

It's hard to believe that August is upon us, marking the "beginning of the end" of summer 2017. August is a month of food celebrations...National Hot Dog Month, National Catfish Month, National Sandwich Month, National Goat Cheese Month, to name a few.  Good food is something we all enjoy, not just for its wonderful flavors but for its ability to bring people together, just as it does the residents of the Home every day. 

As many of you know, we recently ended our contract with an outside food service provider and brought our program "in-house."  There have been so many wonderful things that have been happening since we made that decision and one of the most remarkable things is the fact that we now have a Director of Food and Nutrition, Deyalmor (Daymo) Nash, who was professionally trained at the Culinary Institute of America!  Daymo brings to the Home a degree and level of culinary expertise that truly rivals some of the best chefs here in DC.

Given that we here at the Home love both good food and a good competition, I am excited to let you know that Daymo will be entering "A Taste of Senior Living," scheduled to take place on October 5th.  In fact, this is not Daymo's first venture into this arena, having entered and won in the past.  This year, we will be there to cheer Daymo on as he prepares another delectable dish to be judged by a group of senior living dining critics.  Here is hoping the "Silver Spoon" award goes to Daymo and the LLDH Home!  Just one more recognition of the wonderful work that takes place at the Home each and every day!

Meet LaToya Scully, Our New Director of Admissions

One of the wonderful things about the Home is that we are made up of a diverse staff that comes from many different backgrounds and life experiences.  LaToya Scully is no exception to that profile.  At age 2, she began studying ballet at the Carnegie Hall Artist Studios in New York City, was considered a professional ballet dancer by the age of 12 and later became a certified dance instructor.  From there, she moved to Atlanta and studied International Business at American Intercontinental University.  Realizing her love for meeting and interacting with new people, she moved into marketing and worked as a Marketing Director for a day spa company in Atlanta that also had offices in the DC/MD/VA area.  Faith would bring her to DC in 2011 and eventually she began working in the long term care field, which then turned into a position as a Marketing Specialist/Community Liaison and then later to an Admissions Director.  The rest is history...her love for helping elders in need and families transitioning their loved ones is the driving force behind what she does every day.  Ms. Scully brings an impressive set of marketing, management, and admissions skills to the Home.  But even more than that, she can teach Zumba!!! Please join us in welcoming LaToya to the Home's staff family.
