Should we conduct an HR Assessment?
New I-9 Form Released

The latest Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, was released on July 17 by US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Employers can use this revised version or continue using Form I-9 with a revision date of 11/14/16 through September 17 of this year. Beginning September 18, however, employers must use the revised form with a revision date of 07/17/17. Employers must continue following existing storage and retention rules for any previously completed Form I-9s.

IRS Releases HSA Contribution Maximums for 2018

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recently released Revenue Procedure 2017-37, which adjusts the limits on contributions to Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) for 2018 based on inflation.

OSHA Delays Implementation of Electronic Recordkeeping Rule

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently announced that they will indefinitely delay the previously scheduled July 1, 2017, due date regarding electronic information submission of the Form 300A. The electronic recordkeeping requirement, known as the "Final Rule," includes provisions for certain employers to electronically submit workplace injury and illness data that they are already required to record on forms they keep on-site.
Recent Updates to Massachusetts CORI Regulations

As part of continued reform efforts by Governor Charlie Baker, revisions to the Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) process have been issued for 2017. These revisions affect both private and public employers, such as schools and long-term care facilities, which are required by law to obtain CORI information. A CORI report is a record of an individual's criminal court appearances in Massachusetts, including arrests, convictions, dismissals, and serious violations.

Chicago and Cook County Paid Sick Leave Ordinance Becomes Effective July 1 

Chicago and Cook County, Illinois have enacted separate ordinances for employers to provide paid sick leave to covered employees. The two ordinances mirror each other with the primary difference being the geographical area.

What Employers Need to Know About New York's Paid Family Leave

Beginning January 1, 2018 New York will join ranks with California, New Jersey and Rhode Island as the only states in the nation to institute a Paid Family Leave (PFL) benefit. When the benefit is fully phased-in, New York will have the most comprehensive and robust Paid Family Leave program in the U.S. to date.

Washington DC Passes One of Country's Most Generous Paid Sick Leave Laws

On April 7, 2017, Washington, DC passed one of the more robust paid parental leave laws in the nation. In doing so, it joins a growing number of cities and states, including San Francisco and New York, to pass legislation aimed at increasing paid leave to employees. Only 12% of American workers are offered paid leave through their employers.
