The State Fair is just around the corner - want to save some money on tickets?  Play hooky on Wednesday, August 30th, and get discounted tickets on "Read & Ride Day".  All you have to do is show your library card at the gate to get the discount (one discount per card, so be sure everyone in your group has their card). Discounts range from $2-$3 off the regular ticket price, and there will also be special ride and game promotions offered for everyone at Mighty Midway and Kidway all day. 

Visit with Scott Library staff in Carousel Park (in front of the Grand Stand) and enjoy special Read & Ride library events from 9 am to 5 pm in nearby Dan Patch Park, including comedy acts, music, and book fortunetellers.

Business Advice from an Expert                                               

Do you need some advice on running your business?  Need someone to run a business idea by?  A South Metro SCORE counselor visits the Savage Library the second Thursday of each month to help entrepreneurs and small business owners evaluate and prepare plans, stabilize, grow, innovate and succeed.

Counselors are are real-world professionals with time-tested knowledge, from all facets of the business world.  They are experts in such areas as accounting, finance, marketing, real estate, business acquisition and sale, management and business plan preparation.

Looking for some new books to add to your collection? Check out the Shakopee Friends Book Sale for great deals on gently-used books.  All proceeds from the sale support children and adult programs at the Shakopee Library.

The Scott County Library and Smalltown Eclectic present Loud! at the Library -- an open mic and art night. Open Mic is open to ages 12-112, with 5 minutes allotted per act.  All genres are welcome. The Art Exhibit is also open to all ages. All mediums welcome. For more information, click here.

Prerequisite: Ability to use the keyboard and mouse. Learn how to format slide text, add images, and select transitions for your presentation.  Taught by the Science Museum of Minnesota Computer Education Center, funded by the Metropolitan Library Service Agency (MELSA).

Senior Surf - Learn to Use the Internet

Adults 55+ are invited to a free session to learn how to use a computer and surf the Internet! These classes are geared to older adults who have little or no experience with computers. Learn how to type in a web address and navigate between web pages, determine if a website is secure, conduct searches using common search engines, and access Internet sites that will assist you in finding information (including Medicare.gov, MinnesotaHelp.info, and more).

Jordan Library Book Club - will discuss We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves  by Karen Joy Fowler.   We are actively looking to add additional readers --  join us just this month or every month!

Savage Pagers Book Club* - will discuss Miss Dreamsville and the Collier County Women's Literary Society by Amy Hill Hearth
