The
Senate's effort to pass a stripped-down version of an
Obamacare repeal measure -- the so-called "skinny repeal" of the
Affordable Care Act -- failed during a vote, 49-51, held shortly around 1:30 a.m. Friday.

According to the CNN post:
Sen.
John McCain, R-Ariz., was among the
Republicans who voted 'no.' There were gasps and applause from the Senate floor when McCain voted. The other Republicans who voted 'no' were Rep.
Susan Collins of Maine and Rep.
Lisa Murkowski of Alaska...McCain offered a plan going forward, saying, "We must now return to the correct way of legislating and send the bill back to committee, hold hearings, receive input from both sides of aisle, heed the recommendations of nation's governors, and produce a bill that finally delivers affordable health care for the American people. We must do the hard work our citizens expect of us and deserve."

Charlie had been treated at GOSH <
Great Ormond Street Hospital> in London, where doctors said he was in pain and that further treatment would only increase his suffering. They sought permission from the courts to switch off his life support and allow him to die peacefully...Gard and Yates resisted, arguing that an experimental treatment available in the U.S. could extend and improve Charlie's life... The case gained international attention after Charlie's parents received support from
Pope Francis,
Donald Trump and some members of the
U.S. Congress.

FDA Targets Nicotine in Cigarettes

CNN on

The
FDA said it will consider a plan to cut the amount of nicotine in cigarettes to "non-addictive" levels. The agency said it may also regulate "kid-appealing flavors" in e-cigarettes and cigars and wants to encourage "new products that may be less dangerous than cigarettes."

Cigarettes are the "only legal consumer product that, when used as intended, will kill half of all long-term users," FDA Commissioner
Scott Gottlieb said in a statement.
