A Message from Gene Barr
In support of prescription drug formulary - H.B. 18

The Pennsylvania Chamber of Business & Industry is urging employers to contact House members in their area to urge support of H.B. 18.

Important legislation, which has been shown in other states to help address over-prescribing of medication and opioid abuse among injured workers and has the secondary effect of significant savings for state workers comp systems and employers. For example, California passed similar legislation in 2015 and estimates they will ultimately save as much as $420 million annually.

This bill is supported by a broad range of state organizations (CLICK HERE for a recent coalition letter) including associations representing local governments, construction, the energy sector, other employers, hospitals, others in the medical community, addiction treatment, etc. Unfortunately, the trial lawyers association temporarily scuttled plans to consider the bill when it was scheduled to come up a few weeks ago and we are now most likely delayed to the fall. We will use these months to educate the public, employers and lawmakers on the importance of this legislation.

As always, support from the chamber community is critical. Please contact Alex Halper by August 11th to sign on to the letter or at any point if you have any questions or would like to discuss. Alex can be reached at ahalper@pchamber.org or 717-720-5471.
