Celebrating 25 Years of Stewardship & Education!

November 2017 Newsletter
Fall is the time of year when we change clocks and take barn jackets out of the closet. Historic sites appear to go dormant - the operative word is "appear" because this actually becomes JHC's busiest time to advance capital preservation projects for the buildings and grounds and also a time to book school field trips for the January - June 2018 season. (Hint - has your school booked a date yet? Fridays are ideal!)

Autumn is also a time to be thankful. Following a spectacularly successful 25th Anniversary party, we have additional funds to host more school visits and public programs for FREE or reduced admissions. We cannot thank our Co-Chairs, Committee and donors enough. They say pictures speak louder than words - a link to photos of the Jay Soiree festivities can be found here or click on the photo above.

Lastly, as we approach the holiday gathering and giving season, we thank all of you for making the Jay Estate your park to protect and support. Every dollar you have given us is put to extremely good use - please come visit us often to see your investment grow!

With immense thanks,

Everyone at the Jay Heritage Center: Board, Staff, Volunteers and the Community you help us serve!

This Coming Sunday, November 12
Doors Open at 4:30 pm
The 10,000 year old viewway of the Jay Estate is miraculous for its age but also for the absence of modern intrusions like buildings or light pollution. This makes it an extraordinarily rare venue for stargazing!

Step back in time when the celestial sky was biggest light show in town. Join us for "Moonlight Over the Mansion" with renowned Astronomer Jason Kendall featuring light bites, music and a peek at planetary wonders. We'll supply the plaid picnic blankets, telescopes and beverages! Admission is $40 per Family and $15 per Person . (Note new time! This event has been rescheduled from October 8 - tickets purchased for that event can be re-used or refunded.) Thank you to Emma Hanratty for organizing this fun event!
Thinking of making the switch to organic yard care? Come hear what local landscaping professionals have to say about maintaining gardens naturally. Representatives from a range of lawn and garden service providers will be on hand to discuss their strategies for organic and natural landscaping.

THIS PROGRAM IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

JHC is grateful to Natasha Caputo and everyone at Westchester County Film & Tourism for this opportunity.
JHC was proud to receive several 25th Anniversary Proclamations from NY State and Westchester County government officials. Governor Andrew Cuomo and County Executive Rob Astorino have each been instrumental in preserving our National Historic Landmark site and its inviolate archaeologically sensitive and culturally significant surroundings. We value and applaud the bipartisan spirit that has helped shape our public-private partnership from the start and will continue to protect our American heritage beyond the next 25 years.

JHC has been an active member of the Lower Hudson Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (LHPRISM) since 2011 when our volunteers mapped some of the first observations for NY State's IMapInvasives database. Thanks to numerous grants from Con Edison we have provided FREE workshops and educated 1000s about protecting native habitat and wildlife from this growing threat that has been accelerated by climate change.

We recently participated in the 2nd Invasive Species Summit Co-Sponsored by the NY Botanical Gardens and LHPRISM, contributing updates on our landscape restoration and management of the Jay Meadow.
