U.S. HUD announces final rule to make public housing smoke-free
All 3,100 public housing agencies in the U.S. will be required to go smoke-free in the next eighteen monthsthanks to a new rule released by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) on November 30, 2016. The rule requires that the agencies enact smoke-free policies that apply to all living units, indoor common areas, administrative offices, and outdoor areas within 25 feet of buildings.
City of Milwaukee Tobacco-Free Alliance coalition partner and Milwaukee Fire Department Deputy, Chief Aaron Lipski, was recently interviewed about the new smoke free public housing ruling, calling it "an enormous boon for public health [and] a boon for fire safety."

NYTD Cohort 1 findings released by the Children's Bureau
The Children's Bureau is pleased to announce the release of a new brief highlighting results from the first cohort of youth who took the National Youth in Transition Database (NYTD) survey at ages 17, 19 and 21. These newly released data show that youth aging out of foster care are faring well in some outcome areas but a significant number experience homelessness, early parenthood and lack of medical insurance. By age 21, young people surveyed reported positive gains in many protective factors, yet there is evidence that current and former foster youth continue to face challenges that can be barriers to adult independence.

Ruling on smokeless tobacco!
On November 22nd, the City of Milwaukee Common Council voted to
#knocktobaccooutofthepark!
Smokeless tobacco will be prohibited at all city sports venues, including Miller Park Stadium.
