PTA Governance & Budget Review Session TODAY
November 3rd, 12:30pm - 3:30pm in the PTA Room
Do you have a special interest in our PTA Governance (Standing Rules) and/or Operating Budget? If so, we invite you to join us TODAY when we  provide our members another special opportunity to review the Standing Rules and an updated Budget, which will both be recommended for approval at our November Board/General Membership Meetings.

We encourage any and all of our interested members to have the chance to openly review this information prior to our meetings, so you may take advantage of being able to discuss and gain clarification of what and why things have been structured the way they have. Standing Rules will be discussed starting at 12:30, and Budget discussion will then start at 1:30.

Please consider joining us during one or both of these times. We look forward to seeing you.
Join the PTA Nominating Committee!
We're looking for five PTA members who will interview and nominate candidates to fill next year's open PTA board positions.
Nominating committee is a short-term position, and committee members will be officially elected at the November general meeting. It's a great way to get to know parents and contribute in a big way! Please email adminsupport@puestadelsolpta.org for details.
PTA Grants: Classroom Rugs, Books
The Puesta del Sol PTA voted at the September board meeting to fulfill four teacher grant requests.
Sra. Patti (art) and Sr. Gari (2) were granted $270 a piece to purchase classroom grid rugs. The 5th grade team was granted $630 for a set of grade-appropriate Spanish-only dictionaries. And the 3rd grade team was granted $560 to purchase 11 sets of high-interest readers. To all the Puesta del Sol PTA members that make this and other grants possible by your generous donations throughout the year, thank you! We couldn't do it without you!
Welcome to Puesta del Sol, Marnie!
A big welcome to Marnie Kazarian Olson, our new Heatlh and Fitness Specialist.
This is Marnie's fourth year teaching Health and Fitness (previously at Woodridge Elementary). Marnie is not a native Spanish-speaker, but she did study Spanish for three years. She recently married a fellow Gonzaga alum ("Go, Bulldogs!" says Marnie). Together they have a much-adored cat, Rufio. In the summer, Marnie enjoys wake-boarding on the lake, and in the winter she can be found cheering on her friends and students during their basketball/lacrosse/soccer games. Marnie, your enthusiasm and dedication are already apparent. Have a great year!

Library News
Announcement
This year Sra Brody is starting her slow slide to retirement. She will be teaching classes Mon.-Thurs. Please welcome  our new Librarian in training, Lisa Carpenter. Lisa will be teaching the Friday classes.  Welcome Lisa!!

Hello, my name is Lisa Carpenter.  All three of my children (grades 6, 8, 10) are Puesta del Sol graduates.  During their years here I enjoyed helping Sra. Brody oversee the Birthday Book Club. Now I have the good fortune to be the librarian here on Fridays.

Prior to staying home with my children, I was an elementary school teacher for 12 years in Kent. I taught resource room, 2nd and 4th grade. I am a huge fan of the ISA program, and I have always loved to read.  Spending Fridays in the library will be a real treat for me!

Volunteers Needed
The library always needs volunteers to help shelve books, cover new books, read to students, and check out books to students. Drop in any time and sign up!

We still need volunteer help for the following classes:
Sra. Palacios - Monday at 12:40 Sra. Chaparro - Monday at 1:20 Sra. Giraldo - Monday at 2:15
Sra. Medina - Tuesday at 10:30 Sr. Lewis - Tuesday at 2:55 Sra. Fletcher - Thursday at 2:15
Sra. Kimbrough - Friday at 12:40 Sra. Hinton - Friday at 2:55

Birthday Book Club
Welcome Dena Voth, our new Birthday Book Club Chairman. You will be receiving a flyer during the month of your child's birthday inviting them to donate a book to our library in honor of their birthday. Look for the Puesta del Sol Wish List on Amazon to see all the books in both Spanish and English that we would like to have in our collection. New or gently used books, a cash donation of $22.00 or an Amazon Gift Card are also welcome. A book plate with your child's name and birthday will be put in the book or books that are donated.

Book Fair
A HUGE thank you to Scholastic Book Fair Chairmen Allison Patterson and Alycia Gerlach and their wonderful team of volunteers. They were smiling throughout the entire week, even when the library was packed with adult and student shoppers! Planning is already underway for improvements for next year's Scholastic Book Fair. There are also plans to have a Spanish Book Fair in the spring.

Collecting Ink Cartridges
Sra. Brody will no longer be collecting used ink cartridges and cell phones.  She's earned a lot of money over the years for the library with this project, but the company no longer wants many of the ink cartridges that are sent. Thanks to everyone who has supported this project.
