Speak up for SRP Funding
Each year, the New York State Summer Reading Program hosted by your local library offers unparalleled literacy and enrichment opportunities to our state's young learners. Generations of students have combatted summer learning loss through the program's literacy-supportive arts and music programs, and returned to school in the fall better prepared for the year ahead.

Participation in the program has now exceeded 2 million students annually, and the New York State Library anticipates participation will soon exceed 2.5 million students. This increase in participation has placed a strain on program funding.

This year, the New York State Legislature has passed a bill (A.1094-A Galef / S.3023-A Ritchie) that would permit every taxpayer to directly and conveniently support the Summer Reading Program when preparing tax forms. This bill will soon be sent to Governor Andrew Cuomo, who will consider the fate of the program's future funding.

Send Governor Cuomo a letter of support today through the New York Library Association's Online Advocacy Center: http://bit.ly/2vXSvy7

Jeannie Bogino, long-time director of the New Lebanon Library, passed away in June while at the American Library Association conference in Chicago, IL. Jeannie was a bright light in the library community and beyond. Jeannie will be remembered for many things, in particular for being a passionate advocate for library patrons and readers. She was a published writer, most well known for her novel Rock Angel. In 2011, Jeannie was named Library Journal's fiction reviewer of the year, she specialized in zombie literature and horror films. Jeannie loved her dogs, music and beekeeping. She was a dedicated professional, literally, to the end of her life. In celebration of her life, the board of the New Lebanon Library invites her friends and colleagues to come together on Saturday, August 26th from 3:30-5:00 pm at the Church of Our Savior on Route 22 in New Lebanon, NY.
