Guthrie to Host Oklahoma Congress of Mayors On January 20, 2017, Has Your Mayor Registered?
|
The Mayors Council of Oklahoma (MCO) and OML will host the seventh annual Congress of Mayors at the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum in Guthrie, OK on Friday, January 20, 2017. The goal of the Congress is to give municipal leaders a better understanding of the legislative process as well as provide them the opportunity to interact with their colleagues and lawmakers to get a realistic understanding of municipal issues such as transportation /infrastructure, public safety, municipal operations, community and economic development and municipal finance.

Throughout the year OML provides an intensive educational program specifically tailored for newly elected officials as well as experienced officials who want to keep up-to-date on municipal issues. The New Officials Institute workshop concentrates on topics such as the Open Meeting Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, Municipal Finance, Ethics and much more. 9-1-1 Fee Information Due Immediately
|
With the passage and enactment of HB 3126 the new 9-1-1 legislation by Rep. Josh Cockroft (R-Tecumseh) and Sen. Jason Smalley (R-Stroud), cities are required to provide to the newly formed Oklahoma 9-1-1 Management Authority and the Oklahoma Tax Commission certain documentation which confirms and certifies both the local jurisdiction's population and who the proper recipient is of the 9-1-1 fees collected.
INCOG, ACOG AND SWODA have been collecting this information for the PSAPs (public safety answering points) in their area. However, INCOG is doing the rest of the state. If you have not filled out the resolution, information letter and provided your map, you should contact Darita Huckabee at INCOG at (918) 579 9438 (office) or by email at dhuckabee@incog.org before January 1, 2017.

Pryor Mayor Jimmy Tramel Receives George Nigh Public Service in the Arts Award
|
Pryor Mayor Jimmy Tramel was honored at the 41st Annual Governor's Arts Awards at the state Capitol on Wednesday. Mayor Tramel received the George Nigh Public Service in the Arts Award, which recognizes Oklahoma government officials or entities for outstanding support of the arts. Mayor Tramel's continued vision and action to build Pryor's arts and cultural resources has resulted in creating a desirable destination for local residents and tourists. Tramel, the Pryor City Council, and the Pryor Area Arts & Humanities Council (PAAHC) partnered together to create an art gallery, music and visual art studios, a small theater and workshop in a former city hall building thus leading to the expansion of PAAHC offerings to include children's summer theater and art activities, film screenings, art exhibitions, group art classes, and more. These efforts also have been supported by Pryor's hotel/motel tax fund.
Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb along with the Oklahoma Arts Council presented the awards on behalf of Gov. Mary Fallin. Those attending the awards ceremony enjoyed a musical performance by the cast members of Lyric Theatre along with acclaimed actress Sandra Mae Frank of California's Deaf West Theatre

Practical Guide Workshop Held in Midwest City
|
The Oklahoma Municipal League hosted the Practical Guide to Municipal Issues Workshop on Friday December 2nd at Rose State College. Over 55 members were in attendance to learn about topics from Elections, Code Enforcement and Open Meetings/Open Records and more.
OML would like to thank our expert speakers, David Weatherford, City Attorney, Sand Springs; Mary Ann Karns, City Attorney, Midwest City; Terry Humphrey, Code Enforcement, City of Edmond; Bryan Drummond, City Attorney, City of Cleveland; Michael Vanderburg, City Attorney, Ponca City
and Roy Tucker, City Attorney, Muskogee. These speakers bring years of experience and knowledge to our members and make these workshops a great success!
The next training session will be the Budget Process Workshop on February 3, 2017 at Rose State College. Be sure to mark this on your calendars to plan to attend.
