Knit or Crochet Knockers
Learn how to start a knocker at 1 pm on Tuesday,  November 8th.    No class fee, but yarn must be purchased from us prior to class.  To knit a knocker, you will need size 4 or 5 DPNs, 8 ", and another pair of the same size in 5" or 6" is helpful but not mandatory; size G crochet hook for crochet knocker.  Hooks and DPNs are available to purchase from us.

Susan Hopkins has knitted several  Omena vests and they are on display in the
shop.  Susan is a very accomplished knitter and has agreed to teach a class for the Omena on November 7th, 1 to 3 pm.  This beautiful vest is knitted with worsted weight yarn and size 9 circular needles.  It is deceptively simple in its construction, requiring no seams, and no picking up stitches.  If you can cast on, knit, and purl, this is the vest for you. Class fee is $26 which includes the Omena pattern, but does not include yarn or needles.  Pick out both prior to class here in the shop.

Jessica has mastered the art of crochet and color pooling.  Learn this new color pooling craze with variegated yarns on Saturday, November 12th at 11 am.  $30 class fee includes one skein of Universal Stripes yarn.

Take advantage of Jessica's presence in our shop on November 12th and learn to spin using a drop spindle or spinning wheel.   Spindles and fiber available at the shop.  $20 lesson fee.  Call in advance to schedule your individual instruction.

There is something so cozy about a scarf with pockets, where you can keep your extra Kleenex or your phone and ward off the chill winter weather, all at the same time.  This pocket scarf is crocheted with a lightweight worsted or DK yarn and a size J or K hook.  Start this quick and easy project with Judy on Tuesday, November 15th at 1 pm, or Saturday,  November 19th at 1 pm. You still have time to make several for Christmas gifts.  Pattern fee is $3, but there is no instruction fee. Pick out your yarn prior to class. (You do need to know how to crochet for this class; it is not a "learn to crochet" class.)

It's time to make Christmas gifts for the special people in your life.  Knit  fingerless mitts quickly and easily using the Magic Loop method.  Judy loves feather and fan patterns and she recently reworked this pattern to make it magic loop friendly!  Class fee of $35 includes yarn and pattern.  You will need a 40" or 47" circular needle, size 3 or 4.  Basic knitting knowledge is required.

Thursday, November 17th or Tuesday, November 22nd at 12:30 pm.

Making yarn is fun and easy with a S upported Spindle. Meet Teresa Beck on Saturday, November 19th, and sit down for a lesson in what is sure to become your favorite new skill! Spindles and fiber available at the shop. $20 lesson fee.  Call in advance to schedule your individual instruction.

The Great Pumpkin November 21, 3:30 p.m. Here's something for the not-knitters or crocheters in your household - let's have a bit of fun making a cute addition to your Thanksgiving table. This pumpkin is needle felted in less than 2 hours. No previous experience required, and suitable for ages 12 and up.   NOTE! felting needles are sharp and finger pricks are quite possible, although we will teach the best safety methods available.  Just $7.00 covers all materials and instructions.

Hats off to November! As Autumn chill fills the air its time to knit up a bit of warm! This month Joan has a whole wardrobe of hat patterns to help you try out some new techniques.  Whether you are a new knitter or a seasoned stitcher, you'll find a hat that is sure to please.  Hats make great gifts, incorporating your personal touch with a practical and fun accessory.

The AOK First Hat is knit flat and seamed. There is a bit of ribbing on which to practice your knits and purls, and some decreases to learn how to shape things to fit. You'll need size 8 needles and a tapestry needle. This class is free with the purchase of 1 ball of Painted Sky, a superwash wool yarn that will make 2 hats.   November 11, 11:00 am.

Red Star Beret is one of Joan's favorite hats. This is a great first time beret and Lana Gatto Class shows off the design perfectly.  Bring size 6 DPN's or 32" circular for magic loop method, and a stitch marker. This class is free with the purchase of 1 ball of Lana Gatto Class, a wool and angora blend yarn.   November 12, 11 am.

Ridges is a toque, a pill box shaped hat with straight sides and flat top. Its a great pattern to experiment with a handspun yarn.  Alternating sections of stockinette and reverse stockinette add visual interest and will show of the varying textures inherent in handspun.  The first lesson to be learned in this class is the importance of gauge. Bring DPN's or 16" circular needles in sizes 6 - 9, and select a lovely handspun from one of our local fiber artists.  The class is free with purchase of yarn.  November 14, 3:00

Button Up Hat is a very creative design - worked flat but it buttons rather than seaming.  The pattern is written for seed stitch for lots of knit-purl practice. We'll show you how to do variations on that theme as well.  Try this with the new ultra soft Ella Rae DK Merino Superwash for incredible comfort and stitch definition. Bring size 6 needles and up to 6 buttons. The class is free with purchase of 1 hank of the recommended yarn, which will make 2 hats.   November 18, 1:00

School Spirit Hat can be made in 1 or 2 colors. Worked in a tube and then learn the Three Needle Bind Off to close, this is a fun and easy hat, a good choice for your first project knitted in the round. Bring a size 8 - 16" circular needle and a stitch marker.  The class is free with the purchase of 1 ball of Uptown Worsted or Encore Worsted, economical easy care yarns.   November 21, 11:00 am.

The Clamber Hat features easy cables. Take your hat knitting to the next level with this great design element and learn the no-cable-needle-cable method. Add another cable to the brim, or leave it off. One ball of Cascade Longwood Sport will make this gorgeous hat. The class is fee with purchase of yarn.   November 25, 11:00

For those elves in your midst, the Elf hat is a fun and easy accessory. Make the curling tip as long as you want! No purling, just cast on and knit.  One hank of Rustic Tweed will make several, or substitute any worsted weight yarn. Here's a hint, select an easy care superwash wool for warmth and long wear.   November 28, 11:00 am.
