Michael Mahaney passed away peacefully on Monday, October 24, 2016, at the James Cancer Center in Columbus, Ohio.   He was 71.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis;  son, Carl;  and grandson, Julian.

Mike will be interred at Western Reserve National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2016, followed by a memorial lunch at 1 p.m. at Nickajack Farms, 2955 Manchester Ave. NW, North Lawrence, OH 44666.   All are welcome.

A Memorial Fund in Mike's name has been set up at First Merit Bank.   Donations can be made at any branch.

Mike was a graduate of Tallmadge High School, and he held degrees from both Kent State and Akron University.   His service in the Navy was spent stationed in Philadelphia, where he administered the GED to fellow service members.   After the Navy, Mike spent 30 years as a teacher in Wadsworth City Schools, and, in retirement, he worked as a land specialist.   Mike's depth of historical knowledge and eagerness to share his passions with others made him a beloved teacher, colleague, and friend.

In remembrance of Mike, please be kind to each other, respect nature, and love the animals.
