FTR Voted 'Best Gym in Utah' By City Weekly!

For 27 years local magazine City Weekly has been publishing it's "Best of Utah" edition.
This year Fit To Recover took first place for Best Gym!  Now our lobby is full of the latest issue and proud FTR members thumbing through to see the full page spread about their beloved gym.

"Some 8,000 of you cast 118,516 votes across 136 categories-a new milestone.
It was a herculean effort for sure; one that is a love letter to Utah, and a well-deserved pat on the back to those who truly make it great."
~Enrique Limón, Editor  City Weekly

It's a day to celebrate milestones, whether it's day 1 or day 1,000 -- each day in recovery is a hard-earned gift. We've chosen November 28 (#GivingTuesday), the largest giving day of the year, to celebrate together with a great workout and a big, beautiful community dinner. It's free! So bring your family & friends! RSVP here.

We also hope you'll consider a year-end tax-deductible donation to FTR on or before November 28. Doing the right thing for the right reason is what got us here. Please help us keep that going by donating here. on or before November 28. Thank you!
Spotlight: New Staff:  Kelsie Warr

The next time you come check in for a class at the gym, you will be greeted by the bright smile of the newest addition to team FTR,  Kelsie Warr.
It has been a positive adjustment for her to be working at the front desk, one she is deeply grateful for.
She says one unexpected thing about her new job is the love she feels from the community.

"I have never worked at a place where people genuinely care about you.  I was welcomed with open arms."

Kelsie loves dogs, art, and the brutal honesty of children.  She says fitness is a crucial part of her recovery, so she fits right in!
She has a great sense of humor and her laugh is heard in the lobby every day.  She really brightens the gym, and aids in the growing number of people flowing through our doors.

"I adore full blown belly laughs, the kind that make it hard to breath, and put tears in your eyes.  An occasional snort is pretty good too."

Welcome to the Squad Kelsie, we are so delighted to have you!

Creative Arts: River Reading December 1st

"I celebrate myself, and sing myself,
And what I assume you shall assume,
For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you."

~ Walt Whitman, Song of Myself

Storytelling is a vital part of every culture.  Each person who attends a session of River Writing quickly finds it equally uplifting to listen to the words of others as it is to write their own.  We all carry stories, which often overlap sweetly like layers of a fine pastry.

Rimini Coffee downtown has agreed to host our reading once again, and we could not be more grateful.  It is the ideal space of rich wood and the spicy aroma of fresh roasted coffee beans.

Join us for one night of spoken word, and honor our brave writers with the quality of your listening.  December 1st 7 p.m. at Rimini Coffee 532 South 400 West
Nutrition/Food To Recover:  Halloween Recipes with Kids

Healthy habits start in the kitchen. The younger we can engage our children in food preparation and healthy eating, the more likely they will carry those habits through their whole lives! Parents and children gathered in the FTR kitchen to bond through fun and creative recipes with a "spooky" twist! Mummified hotdogs, spider deviled eggs, creepy crawly graveyards, bell pepper jack-o-lanterns, and lychee and blueberry eyeballs were scattered throughout the kitchen!

At FTR our four pillars work together.  "Food and Fitness Commitment"  is a melding of fitness and nutrition.  Of course they go together!
In November we invite you to become more aware of your eating and exercising habits and connect with your body, with behaviors that will stick. The holiday season can be excessive and we get going too fast rushing from sugar plums to the next family party.  Let's join together and commit to being mindful of healthy practices,    With weekly meal ideas (and community meal prep!), themed fitness classes, daily logs of food intake and exercise, we will support you in your journey! And, share your success with friends through the Food and Fitness Commitment Facebook group.
The commitment starts November 6th and goes until December 4th. $10 buy-in; invest in your health!

Community Meal Prep: November 7, 14, 21 (#FTRgives/#GivingTuesday is Nov 28).

For one day, Salt Lake City came together with open hearts and minds, the only thing separating them was the color of their shirts. It was beautiful, it was felt, it was necessary and more importantly SLC is going to continue this event. It was a success on every level imaginable. ln the end, it wasn't about what "we" did for "them."  It was about how the line between "us" and "them" dissolved.

"We had over 90 service providers and over 200 actual services being offered. Hundreds of haircuts were given, about 150 vision exams were done and prescription glasses given out, well over 200 people received a dental assessment with many receiving on-the-spot work, over 50 wounds were cared for, dozens received mental health or substance abuse evaluations with some getting enrolled into treatment, and so much more. We couldn't have asked for a better day." ~ Michael Akerlow - Director of the Department of Community and Neighborhoods
MISSION: FTR's mission is to provide people in recovery from drug and alcohol misuse with a safe place to connect through exercise, nutrition, creative expression and community service.
