Pennsylvania Secretary of Education Visits Coebourn Elementary

The Pennsylvania Public School Building Construction and Reconstruction Advisory Committee held a meeting at Coebourn Elementary School on November 22, 2016. The bipartisan committee is charged with improving and streamlining the process for reimbursement of some school construction costs.

Penn-Delco's State Rep. Leanne Krueger-Braneky is a member of the committee and moderated the meeting. Penn-Delco's State Senator Tom Killion was also in attendance.

Pennsylvania's Secretary of Education, Sec. Pedro Rivera, is the Co-chair of the committee. At the conclusion of the meeting, he had the opportunity to tour Coebourn Elementary and speak with some of our outstanding students.

Penn-Delco Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Steinhoff noted, "It was an honor to host the statewide Plan Con Advisory Committee at our own Coebourn Elementary School. The opportunity to host the hearing, provide a tour of our school for Secretary of Education Rivera, and address the committee on matters involving state reimbursement of construction costs was certainly welcomed."

New Elementary Report Card Reminder

Elementary report cards will be made available through Home Access Center  on December 9th after 4:00 p.m.  This is a reminder that we have revised our elementary report card for all students in kindergarten through grade 5. It is our expectation that this new report card will provide more detailed information regarding your child's progress towards grade-level goals.

This new standards-based report card was designed by a committee of K-5 teachers from each of our four elementary schools. The committee worked over the past two years to design the new report card and align common assessments to each of the performance indicators.

Northley Students Host a Thanksgiving Feast

Some Northley students had another taste of turkey as part of their annual Thanksgiving Feast. To prepare for their feast, they developed a menu, shopping list, discussed appropriate table manners, and followed recipes to make all the menu items from scratch. Students took part in setting a table properly, preparing and setting up food stations, finding their name on place cards, making conversation with the people sitting near them, and cleaning up after themselves. In class, students have been discussing the meaning of Thanksgiving and before the feast, each student and staff member shared what he or she was thankful for. This year they added a photo booth where the students had fun posing for pictures with their classmates and teachers.
