Beta Club
The Beta Club is selling donuts  as a fundraiser to cover materials and expenses associated with the state convention, which will be the week of Thanksgiving at the Opryland Hotel.  Over 60 students will be competing in events ranging from Quiz Bowl to Songfest to Photography, and fundraising is their only source of income, so PLEASE be sure to buy some Krispy Kreme donuts and support the Beta Club!  Additionally, they will be hosting a fundraiser after Thanksgiving through the Green Dragon restaurant.  Details are soon to follow!

Congratulations Dr Mall!

Congratulations to Dr. Mall for presenting at the Tennessee Association for the Gifted state conference!  She presented on the complexity of social and emotional issues in giftedness, as well as the challenges with being twice exceptional (gifted with at least one disability) from a parenting and teaching standpoint.  She will be attending the National Gifted Conference as a Parent Advisory Board member and will work with other states on developing gifted education policy at both the state and national levels.
Dr Mall will also participate in educational sessions with some of the leading professors in the United States to deepen her knowledge about gifted education. What a wonderful experience to bring back to Discovery!

Library News!
Special Author Visit Announcement
I am pleased to announce that thanks to our amazing PTA and their dedication to student enrichment we will be hosting author and illustrator Nathan Hale at our school on Tuesday, November 28th! Our older students will know Mr. Hale best for his popular graphic novel series Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales, a series that our students love so much we can't keep it on the shelves! Mr. Hale will be spending the entire day at our school, giving four presentations in the library so that all of our students can enjoy hearing his unique and hilarious talks. Be on the lookout for some information to come home soon concerning the opportunity to pre-order copies of his books, including his brand new title Raid of No Return: A World War II Tale. You can find out more about his life and his books at his publisher's website: http://www.abramsbooks.com/contributor/nathan-hale_5683808/

Nathan Hale is the #1 New York Times bestselling author and illustrator of Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales. He also illustrated the graphic novel Rapunzel's Revenge, which was an Al's Book Club for Kids...

Fest-o-Fall
Thanks to All for a Wonderful Inaugural Fest-o-Fall!!

The PTA would like to express many thanks to all the teachers, parents, and students who volunteered time and talent to create some truly exciting and entertaining activity and game booths for our inaugural Fest-o-Fall event!  We had a fabulous turn-out, with each family's attendance very much appreciated.  From all accounts, we have heard our families had lots of fun....which was exactly our objective!

Special thanks go out to some key volunteers who helped organize and execute the event:  our very own fantastic Ms. Maria, so accurately deemed the "Mary Poppins" of our Discovery School; Kathie Elfersy; Michael Guess; Margaret Bramlett; Jeff Bratsch; Shane Johnson; and Brittany Hackney, along with her great group of ESP staff!  We are also grateful for our vendors who took part in the fun.

Special commendation is also due to all of our brave teachers who endured never-ending dunks in our tank to raise money for a student scholarship fund!  The total amount raised was over $750!  Thank you very much to all who participated.  Congratulations to Mrs. Vance who earned the title of Dunk Tank Champion and gets to keep our very unique trophy...until the next challenge!

Thanks to our wonderful Volunteers

THANK YOU to the many volunteers who made our first annual Fall-o-Fest a HUGE success!
