Art with a Heart Team Welcomes Courtney Luther
Art with a Heart is pleased to welcome its new Programs Assistant, Courtney Luther. Ms. Luther joins the Art with a Heart team after doing a year-long college internship with the organization. Courtney graduated in 2017 with a B.A. in Family and Human Services from Towson State University. Courtney is delighted to be part of the Art with a Heart family and shares, "I just love it here; it's amazing!"

Creativity Keeps the Community Coming Back
Art with a Heart, in collaboration with
Baltimore City Recreation & Parks, is continuing its mobile visual art initiative. Now through September 2, 2017, Art with a Heart will be conducting two classes a day at 11:00am and 2:00pm every Wednesday through Saturday. You can find Art in the Park at Reedbird Park, Lakeland Park, Florence Cummings Park, Paca Street Park, ABC/Catherine Street Park, Franklin Square Park, Carroll Park Playground Area, and Solo Gibbs Park. Join us...all you need to bring is your imagination!

ceramic portraits, students in Art with a Heart's classes at the
Gardenville Recreation Center created self-portraits inspired by the artist's work. The students let their creativity flourish through the use of layered geometric shapes and fluorescent colors.

SummerReads Students Become ARTchitects of Dream Homes
Students in Art with a Heart's classes in the SummerREADS program enjoyed the
book, "The Big Orange Splot," by Daniel Pinkwater. In the story, the main character inspires neighbors to celebrate the art of diversity after an unfortunate mishap. This S.T.E.A.M project integrates the use of line, shape, color, texture, and space. Students learned basic architectural elements of rowhome facades along with collage techniques to design "a home that looks like their dreams."

Transformation Station: ART!
Art with a Heart welcomed students from the Park Heights Transformation Zone to its classes at the
Langston Hughes Community and Resource Center. S
pearheaded by Park Heights Transformation Zone Police Officers, Rashad Hamond and John Perfetto, students enjoyed design projects to learn about each other including unique name tags and illustrations.

Building Better Blocks with Baltimore Junior Academy
Students in Art with a Heart's classes at Baltimore Junior Academy created collage cityscapes inspired by Romare Bearden's "The Block." Each student was tasked with creating a panel representing different neighborhood institutions like the corner store, the barbershop, and community centers. When students connected the panels a new, colorful community was created.

HeARTworks Graduates
Participants in Art with a Heart's HeARTworks program from the Woodbourne Heights community completed their four-week workforce development program. The youth enthusiastically planned a performance for their graduation that included spoken word from journal entries, song, and even dance! Art with a Heart congratulates these graduates for their many accomplishments during the program.

SO Proud!!
This time last year the inaugural cohort of the Art of Leadership was completing their public art project. Since that time, the students have continued to stay connected to Art with a Heart and to each other. We are thrilled to report that all of the graduating seniors from the first Art of Leadership cohort were accepted to college. Of the students from the cohort who are now in 12th grade, all have taken on leadership roles, including two who were elected president of their classes. Additionally, Sheena and Malana (pictured below) are working this summer as assistants in the HeARTworks program.
We are so proud of all these students and know that they have bright futures ahead of them!
