Dear Parents,

Sunday, November 27th, began the beginning of the Church's liturgical year with the first week of advent. Fr. Roberto shares his thoughts on Advent in this week's newsletter. You can find his column each week at the bottom of the page. This week he also gives some wonderful resources for the Advent season. Here is part of his article, please scroll down for the resources and rest of the column.

Fr. Roberto's Corner!

Advent - Come, Lord Jesus
Advent is the beginning of the Church's liturgical year; the word "Advent" means "coming." It is a time of celebrating Jesus' first coming 2,000 years ago in Bethlehem, and it is a time of expectation and preparation for his second coming at the end of time. We join in the Church's age old cry from the Book of Revelation (22:20): "Marana tha" - "Come, Lord Jesus."
But it is also an opportunity for us to prepare for him to come into our lives here and now. Our readings at Sunday and weekday Masses during these first weeks of Advent often contain images of Jesus' second coming and the end of the world, and we are reminded to be watchful, aware and awake for his coming. The color purple or violet was often reserved for use by royalty in times past, so it is used in the vestments and decorations throughout the church during Advent to symbolize the coming at Christmas of Jesus our King and the coming of God's kingdom in its fullness at the end of time. Purple also symbolizes prayer, penance and preparation.

Fr. Roberto

Have a very happy Advent.

Blessings,

Mr. Hooke

The Knights of Columbus would like to personally invite all members of the Parish to attend our
Memorial Mass and Breakfast.
December 4th

This event is to Thank You for all of the support that you have shown The Knights throughout the year.

The Memorial Mass will be at 7:15am and then after Mass we will be serving a free breakfast in the
Fr. Vicente Dominican Hall.

Breakfast will be served all morning & after each Morning Mass including the 10:30. Also this Year the Knights will be holding a fundraiser during the Breakfast.
We will be doing this to help one of our Brothers & his Family.

Gina Rubin is the wife of Tim Rubin (Holy Rosary school math teacher) and mom to Jessica and Amanda (Holy Rosary School alumni). Gina has battled through ovarian cancer and is still battling brain cancer. Gina has had radiation and continues with chemotherapy. Although she has gone blind the Rubins stay positive and upbeat and continue on with daily life. The church, their family and friends are still the center of their lives. It would be wonderful if we could help by taking a little of the financial burden off of them with this fundraiser.

As always the Knights will be serving up their wonderful hot cooked Breakfast. We will also be having raffle prizes and a silent auction. Some prizes include but are not limited to: game systems, sporting tickets, gift baskets and a surprise or two.
See you there!

One of the many beautiful traditions of Advent is the Advent wreath with its four candles. The wreath is made of evergreens, signifying everlasting life. It forms a circle - which has no beginning or end - symbolizing the eternity of God. The four candles represent the four weeks of Advent during which we wait for the return of the Messiah. The traditional theme for each of the four weeks of Advent is hope, love, joy and peace - in that order. As we light the candles each week we are reminded that Jesus is the Light of the world; he is our light in the midst of the darkness during this time of waiting. And, by lighting one more candle each week, we symbolize our growing hope and joy that Jesus is coming to us. The pink or rose colored candle is lit on the third Sunday of Advent - called Gaudete (Latin for "Rejoice") Sunday - precisely to show our joyful anticipation of Jesus' imminent birth at Christmas and his rebirth into our lives now.
