BREWSTER DAY CAMP          Newsletter   July 30, 2017        Vol. 36 Issue 15

Hey Brewster Day Camp!

This Friday is Olympic Day! On this day Special Event Day, BDC "hosts" eight different countries to engage in friendly competition in unique athletic events. In addition to competition, campers learn about cultures and traditions from each country and teach camp about their studies through song, theater, and dance.

¡Vamos! is a Spanish phrase that best translates to "let's go!" Similar to the English usage, the phrase can be used to encourage people to go to a certain location, to cheer them on, or to steer them in the right direction. Whichever way the word is used, it likely implies movement forward.

The phrase¡vamos! embodies our spirited Olympic Day, especially because this year we are hosting Venezuela, a Spanish-speaking country! Olympic Day can remind us that despite the differences that our world's countries hold, we should always be striving to make positive progress and move forward. Although each country involved in BDC's Olympic Day is competing to be "the best," they also gain points for sportsmanship, good attitude, and support for one another.

So on Friday, while we all enthusiastically cheer  ¡vamos!
for our respective countries, we will also be supportive and respectful of our competition. Wait, is that the answer to creating real world peace?!

Vamos, everyone! Get moving, make positive progress, and support one another with...
