"One of my favorite wineries in Napa Valley."
- Robert Parker, December 2015
Winemaker Sean Capiaux hit it out of the park with the 2013 O'Shaughnessy Howell Mountain Cabernet. With well-deserved 95-point ratings from Robert Parker, Antonio Galloni and our own tasting panel, it is an indisputable masterpiece.
We knew this was a special wine when we tasted it from barrel two years ago at O'Shaughnessy's spectacular mountain winery. If anything, it is even more impressive from the bottle.
The wine is a perfectly balanced, pure beast. After a couple of hours in the decanter, it opens up to reveal flavors of dark black fruits, purple flowers, smoky minerals, dark chocolate and fennel along with a burst of oaky spice. In classic O'Shaughnessy fashion, tannins are supple and the finish is luxuriously long and complex - even in its youth.
The 2013 Howell Mountain Cab is everything you expect from Napa Valley mountain fruit and more. This is the real deal; it's well worth the price and it will go fast!
"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is O'Shaughnessy's largest cuvée of wine, nearly 3,300 cases from her vineyard, with a final blend that is somewhat unusual - 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Malbec, 5% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 3% Carménère, and a rather obscure one, 3% St. Macaire. Dense purple in color, with notes of mulberry, blackberry, graphite and spring flowers, the wine has great fruit, a dense, full-bodied mouthfeel, and wonderfully sweet, well-integrated tannin. The acidity is sound, the purity impressive, and the wine long and reassuring. Drink it over the next 20+ years."
- 95 Points, Wine Advocate, Robert Parker (12/2015)
"Deep, inky and powerful, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is a classic wine endowed with tons of regional character and personality to burn. The inclusion of all seven Bordeaux varieties in the blend adds layers of nuance and complexity. Hints of game, smoke, licorice and dark spices add nuance to a somber, brooding Cabernet Sauvignon that is going to need at least a few years to fully open up."
- 95 Points, Vinous, Antonio Galloni (September 2015)
This wine is already sold out at the winery. It also has a median online retail of $98. We beat that by a full twelve bucks. Grab a six-pack to drink over the next 20 years!
